    Why does the troll continue to come into these threads when he only spouts negativity? This was supposed to be a fun conversation. Please start a new thread if you just want to hate on Tesla/BEV's.

    The refresh being speculated about isn't such. Tesla already does those through software updates. They have also made appear tweaks to the cars; remember, the first S had a faux grill. Tesla does the things the other car companies do with a midcycle refresh, they just don't do it all at some prescribed time.

    Spreading those changes out as lead to the refresh term being misused here. The speculation isn't about them doing a refresh, but actually whether Tesla will do the equivalent of a generation redesign for the S and X, in which those models get all the updated tech that is in the 3.

    So, they are planning on "refreshing" the roadster. Perhaps the S is next? Only Elon knows ;)

    The original roadster hasn't been built for something like 8 years now. It is a mistake to call the new roadster a "refresh" because it is a new generation of car, sharing nothing with the original roadster other than an arbitrary name. I would prefer the new two seater to be called something like "model T" oh wait, that's already taken.

    I do think the S (and likely X) will have a decent sized refresh though. I don't think this change will be incremental like they do throughout the standard life cycle of the vehicle.

    One S/X change coming is in the motors. More power and MPE (miles per electron).

    If they are around 390 or 395 it would be extremely foolish of them to not try for 400. Simple marketing.

    Oh I agree, but getting to 400 and beyond is going to a quantum leap, sort of like the stock price right now. ;)

    What BEV on the market today gets 395 miles of range? The highest range I know of is the Tesla model 3LR with 325 miles of range. Adding 75+ miles is a quantum leap at this time. It may be possible if Tesla has some new, unannounced technology, but that would be a quantum leap as well as another MAJOR market disruptor (that and @orenji buying a model 3 :giggle:).

    Model S currently gets 335. With the combination of the more efficient motors and a few more cells I bet they might be able to hit 400. In fact, I'd be surprised if they don't.

    It's an interesting discussion. I think one could make the argument either way. Best solution obviously is to just have both; great fast charging density and huge battery packs. (although people shouldn't be buying big battery packs if they only need that range once in a while)

    That's the decision I had to make. More batteries cost more money. In my case, the 3LR with 310 mile range (at that time) cost $4K more than the 3MR with 264 mile range. I would use the 310 mile range maybe a couple of times a year and that would save me maybe 1 hour of time twice a year. I couldn't justify spending $4K to save 2 hours per year. What the $4K saving did allow me to do was purchase EAP for $5K which I use on a daily basis. It was an easy decision for me to make. On the other hand, the 3SR+ with 240 mile range would probably have worked for me too and that would have provided even more savings but a more frequent inconvenience when charging. I would have given the 3SR+ consideration had it been available or even "promised" in the future at the time of my purchase last December.
