What use cases, features would YOU want automated? So far, I have these todos:
    • Map out Auto EV, Mode and EV/HV buttons so if you want your car started in Auto EV, you can
    • Enable EU Spec AHS selective high beam for USDM models
    • Maybe port road sign detection from the Rav 4 for our Prime models (camera module is the same)
    • Discover if the A/C while car is off prompt to keep battery pack cool defaults to ON without user intervention, and if not, force enable it (if not, that's dumb. I'd run my A/C when charging anytime to maintain battery pack lifespan)
    • Automatically trigger rear HVAC control if a passenger is detected in the backseat (and turn back off)
    • Trigger heated steering wheel/seats when remote HVAC is enabled (via remote, or scheduled HVAC)
    • Possibly monitor battery pack temperature and switch on rear footwell A/C to force cool the battery pack module when charging/driving - need to observe stock functionality and think this through
    • Ejection seat? Force blow additional cool air at passengers over a certain weight? What are your ideas?
For those that don't know, I'm adding comma.ai and OpenPilot to my car soon. This opens up other CAN bus hacking and automation opportunities.

you are way more capable than i am !!! i can only make a suggestion, not sure if its a good one;)
extend the usable range of the battery in EV mode. aka allow charging above the standard cut off 83%,
and command EV mode to dip into the HV portion of the battery, below 13%(someone can clarify, i cant recall the exact cutoffs at top and bottom right now)
i think the prime reserves 30+% of the battery for battery longevity,
so we could unlock significant EV mileage if we could use that spare capacity. good idea? bad idea ? for some it may be worth it.

I could see an emergency feature for charging the battery over the current limit. For example if you live in hurricane country and one is headed your way. Won't be a big boost but could help. I understand that Tesla lowered the 'floor' on cars during the last hurricanes in Florida so people had more range to escape. Some found out they had more range and thought they had the same batteries as the big boys but they weren't normally allowed to use it all because they didn't pay for it :ROFLMAO:

Can you add topographic awareness to the navigation system and link it to the drive mode? There's little point in burning fuel to lift a full battery up to the top of a hill...

Totally agree. My commute is always a few miles short in the winter. It will be awesome if I can use an extra KWh so avoid ICE kicks in.

It's not can bus, but how about hacking the infotainment system? I could see writing some custom software for that, like maybe a set of gauges a la hybridassisant.

yes redo the infotainment system is top priority. so many poor layout decisions were made in the design for the 11.6 screen. it could be 1000 times better with just simple apps.

citiprius, thats what i was thinking, i'm sure many people are now recognizing their daily usage/commutes could be accomplished fully EV if there was just another 10-20% of range
    winter 25 becomes 30
    summer 30 becomes 36
for some, not needed. they are within range, for others not needed their commutes are just too long, will always be in HV daily.
but for a decent sized middle group, could be major upgrade.
shorten battery life ?? probably, but if you change cars every 5 years, who cares ?? or can source a replacement battery at ten years, again win win.

do you think toyota could open up the range on the PRIME like Tesla did? for an emergency, or if after a few years they realize the batteries can handle it ?

How about adding a beep to the blind spot monitor? Is that something that would be accessible through the bus?

Lots of other things beep in the car (seatbelts not done up, reverse gear, cross traffic alert, external sensors,...). But if you’re about to change lanes into a car in your blind spot, all it does is flash a light in the side mirror. It would be nice if it beeped at us if the turn signal is engaged AND a car is in the blind spot.

Mazda does this. The BSM I added to my old Honda Odyssey did this. I miss this safety feature.

Somewhere in this forum there’s a post about someone hardwiring this capability into the Prime while grumbling that Toyota probably only had to add a couple of lines of code to make it work.

You’re going to love comma.ai and OpenPilot! One of the first things I added to my Prime. It’s awesome!

Deeper cycles = less total cycle lifespan. There's a reason why batteries in EVs are running under spec, it'd be expensive for warranty. I doubt we'd see any after sale updates, Toyota isn't Tesla, sadly.

"yes redo the infotainment system is top priority. so many poor layout decisions were made in the design for the 11.6 screen. it could be 1000 times better with just simple apps."

Infotainment on these cars run the open source AGL OS (Automotive Grade Linux, still can't post links, damn). They offer x86, ARM and I bet that Toyota runs ARM.

Huh, maybe it'd be worth experimenting with. Anyone can download AGL and run it on a Rasbperry Pi or rather. Bet you $10 there's a JTAG connector on the stock toyota infotainment system.

I can do a paetron or gofundme to afford a separate infotainment system to hack on. It should be some variant of the linux kernel. I wonder if the filesystem is encrypted ;)

Maybe they use Tizen, which would be even sweeter as mods would just be hacking on some HTML5

"The project was originally conceived as an HTML5-based platform for mobile devices to succeed MeeGo. Samsung merged its previous Linux-based OS effort, Bada, into Tizen, and has since used it primarily on platforms such as wearable devices and smart TVs."

    Key features include:

    • AGL Application Framework
    • ConnMan network management for pairing multiple devices
    • Vehicle bus messaging with built-in security to prevent unwanted intrusions
    • Audio routing and mixing
    • Multiple display capability (front and rear seat)
    • IP Network Manager with WiFi and LTE
    • Linux Security Module
    • Linux-based distribution using Yocto Project
    • Device Profiles for Telematics, Instrument Cluster
    • Speech Recognition APIs

oh boy, this is tough. Not something I though of. hmmm...

How about with the pattern pressed key fob. it does some action to the car?

like press quiclly lock twice then hold lock lowers all windows?

how about figuring out a way to use the whole 11" for multimedia stuff. even with black bars (top and bottom) is fine too

I don't think so, Tesla updates their cars on the fly, I don't think Toyota is doing that. Though I did get that Entune update notice. But that gave me a choice to do it then or not. IIRC, Tesla increased the range on the smaller battery pack cars without telling the owners, then reverted after the hurricane was done. Talk about someone "watching" you, kinda creepy But thoughtful!

Carista already does that with the windows, but only rolling down. Double click unlock then hold and all 4 windows roll down. Can’t make it roll up though.

I want camper mode. I want to be able to run the HVAC while plugged in, for example if I'm sitting in the car waiting for it to charge, or if I'm camping at an RV park with electric hookup. And being able to run the HVAC without being in "ready" mode would be nice, maybe you could hack the pre-conditioning so it would run while camping in the car.

not sure if this is do able...
does the prime have rain sensing wipers? or just intermittent...
can the rain sensing function, be utilized to close all windows when car is parked and windows are open ?
i dont know why all cars dont have this, would be great to leave windows cracked in the summer and know if it rains they would close automatically.

using Hybrid assistant app you learn that 0% on the dashboard mean 12-13% and fully charged at 100% is about 82-83% so it mean that when you are at 0% battery and using the Hybrid mode the battery is between 12 and 14 % .. so digging in the HV portion is a bad idea because it's already low %

As a feature , i would like to have an Auto EV that is programmable .. let's say that above 75Km/h it switch in HV and below it switch back to full EV .... the current state of Auto EV is totally useless for me.

Customisable Auto EV would be nice, though I don't really know how it decides now. Seems to mostly be "I'll EV given the battery power to do so other than when I need more power." I'd prefer it not EV on the interstate as it would use up most of the EV range such that it is not available for city driving when I get off the interstate. If I know I'll not need that EV range later, I could choose to use EV mode on the interstate myself.

I'm really hoping you can figure out how to enable the adaptive high beams...

For something in the realm of possibilities, it would be nice to see the infotainment display go straight to current weather or the Doppler map after ignition on even if you had to add a 30sec delay for boot up / HD radio signal acquisition.

I'm also considering adding openpilot, but I'm thinking of adding it to my gen3 1st... a little nervous about messing with the new one.

Also, do you know if the Japanese models have auto-folding mirrors? That would be nice as well...
