    Very often, none.
Sometimes you are dead in the water and it won't actually run at all.
It is a gamble to try and drive it anywhere.

Well if the battery was behaving nicely before this it may have a dead inverter pump.

Just to update, I expect to get to the car later this week. To prepare, I bought a mini VCI and installed Techstream (even managed to get it up an running on a Win 10 x64 machine). I played with Techstream a bit on our 2014 V last night, but obviously a lot going on there that I don't understand yet. Can anyone walk me through what I'll need to do when I hook up the car later this week? Am I just running the "Health Check" test on major systems to see what codes it returns?

I'm with the car now and starting to test. It's hooked up to Techstream and I've done a Health Check. Got the P0A80 code, but the individual cell health in the data list doesn't look bad. I'm new to all this data, so hoping someone here can review the screens below and help with diagnosis. Showing a bunch of other error codes, too. Thanks in advance for a speedy reply.

How is the 12 volt battery voltage?

I see block #10 as your issue with P0A80.

The INF codes are 123 for the P3000, and not sure what that is.

But it appears you have a bad module in block 10 at a minimum.

Brought Carista and Dr Prius along, too, and that seems to be the diagnosis:

BTW, I couldn't find the 12V battery in Techstream - where do I look? I put a multimeter on the 12V and got 12.6 resting, 14.4 running.

If that 12.6 holds up overnight, then the 12 V battery is probably good.
If it drops to 12 4 or less after sitting 12 hours or so, then IT probably will need to be replaced soon too.
But that likely is not your immediate problem.

Your battery problem is block 10 is weak. Disregard all the other stuff. That will be modules 19 and 20 from the non-ecu end of the battery.

This is no guarantee that other blocks are not going to fail next month. I HAVE seen batteries that had one bad module replaced, with no other testing performed, that have lasted well over a year. That seems to be the exception, not the rule.

In your first post with the Techstream screen shots, it showed 12.2 volts for the auxiliary battery voltage.

    Borderline IMO.

Thanks, everyone, for the quick diagnoses. I need to bring the car home, which is about a 130-mile drive. At the moment, it's running normally (or, at least, I don't notice any difference in driving and the battery indicator even got into the green for a while when I was testing earlier today). Any rule of thumb on how long a Prius will continue running after the red triangle appears? Would be about three hours drive time to get it home.

If day baby it home. There is no timetable for how long it will last, so be ready if it does crap out ;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Thanks, Ray. That hybrid mechanic you pointed me to NE of Philly told me they usually last two weeks to a month after the triangle appears. But I realize, like most things, YMMV.

Yeah hard to predict, but getting it home and setting yourself up in your familiar surroundings will help ensure the repair is done correctly ;).

Sounds like it is time for a new hv battery though if you don’t want to swap out some modules and rebuild the pack yourself (y).

Yeah, leaning pretty heavily toward 2k1toaster's unit at this point. Don't want to play whack a mole ;)
