tire weight balancing

    I was searching if there is similar topic, but haven't found so far. I just need an opinion if I should go back to the tire garage..

    Maybe it should be the least of my worry but still, I don't really like the outside weight solution after they gave me a set of 4 new tires with balancing..

    Do most people get hidden weights with those 15". Looks like there's some glue residue from some.

    I’m not sure if the shop will do it or not, but they can just remove the weight and use the sticky weights. It’ll look cleaner, that’s about it. Usually they use those lip weights for steel wheels and the sticky weights for alloy wheels or wheels without attachable lips.

    Would they make the wheel cover ride up? If you're not using the covers, maybe just fugedaboutit till next time?

    That's why I was surprised they put these weights to an alloy wheel! Certainly this type of wheel with a sharp edge makes it possible, maybe that's why.

    I noticed another thing. The tire pressure sign is blinking then stays on. I wonder if they missed to put the TPS sensors back? I'm not a TS expert but I found the C2122 code (Cannot receive a data from Transmitter ID2 (main) Fooling around the TS I figured out the ID2 is N/A (-40F), rest is feeding data.

    I wonder if they broke the sensor or the light is on because they use higher PSI for the back wheels I used to do and I have to reset?

    So from what you're seeing in Techstream, it seems to be just one sensor? That could be they damaged one, or one is starting to have failing battery? Considering they just worked on the tires, more likely damage. But I would think failing sensor batteries is going to reach 2010 model year, in the next year or two.

    FWIW, we just got new tires on our 2010 (build date Aug 2009), and no tpms warning after. This was at costco, and I believe they did the tpms "rebuild", which is basically replacement of the valve stem and a few O-rings.

    OK, I went back, and they somehow reset it and now it is reading the ID2 as well..

    Those clip on weights tend to damage the wheel surface, especially if not removed carefully. Because steel wheels usually have covers this damage is concealed and these type are often used on them. (I would not use this shop in the future if possible, or verify stick on weights from now on before signing work order).
