    Before I forget.

My neighbour (who is familiar with the CAT theft from 'The Sitting Duck') caught me today and asked me if my car is okay as she saw a gang of 'rough types' last week sitting in a car for a few hours outside where my Prius was ransacked. I informed her I no longer have my beloved Prius, so she can rest easy. She stood down from her heightened state of surveillance/paranoia. :notworthy::censored:

Would not be surprised if these 'rough types' returned to the scene of the crime in the hope that 'The Sitting Duck' would be back in situ with its new CAT affixed underneath. Gen 1 Prius cars are pretty rare these days, so it would have been easy to spot sitting out there.

They better not return whilst I am at home. My pea-shooter is fully loaded and (I can assure you all) ready to go! :cautious::cautious:

I have to confess that with the continuing reports of Prius CAT thefts now migrating to 3rd generation Prii (including a plug-in recently), not to talk of anecdotal reports regarding triple repeat thefts off the same 2nd generation Prius, I’m getting paranoid once more.

Despite the “customised high level shielding / structural reinforcement on my Plasma Conduits” a.k.a. Catalytic Converter Pods and an eye watering expensive professionally installed 24/7 twin channel dash cam solution with cloud connectivity; I’m getting increasingly paranoid about my vehicle being attacked or at least vandalised by these allegedly (according to our govt) ‘enterprising’ vermin once more.

Though I’ll admit I find the prospect of one of our home grown copycat Grand Theft CAT operatives even more daunting! The latter endowed with the IQ of a barely sentient Baboon have the capability to cause great damage to one’s vehicle - even if they didn’t get the CAT in the end, because they were simply too STOOPID to ascertain they couldn’t actually remove it easily from the vehicle in the first place.
Then of course there are the thefts of worthless replacement CATs.

    Victimless crime indeed.

The Bard lives on and if not that, perhaps Mark6868 is a Nobel Laureate In Literature. I do sympathize and hope the CAT theft remains on your side of the pond, probably to much to ask for.

I like the look of the Hyundai iconia, but thinking probably best to hold of for another year as so as many new hybrid and plugins are in the pipeline. With all the climate change demos hopefully the cost of purchase will come down for eco cars

We bought a 2018 Camry LE Hybrid in August of 2018. It seems with each new generation of Hybrids the mileage keeps getting better and better. With gentle driving we easily get > 55mpg in the summer. Mid 40s in the winter. Absolutely fabulous sound system which seamlessly Bluetooth connects to our phones. One small surprise was that there is no CD player, not a problem with music on our phones however. Great, quiet, smooth riding, hyper fuel efficient car with a full sized trunk.

Just curious Ron, if you've got two phones registered with the Camry, would you be able to send/receive calls with either phone? Maybe that's not technically possible, I really don't understand it. Just know with my wife and I in our 2010 Prius, it's either or, and to switch requires diving into the menus, which is kinda above our brain cells.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Bluetooth version 5 supports two simultaneous connections but Toyota always seem to be the last to implement new tech . They are lagging most other brands with android auto and only now just rolling out to Yaris and one or two others.

It's all rubbish. We in the UK pay higher tax on fuel than many/most countries so why should any car owner pay road tax on top of that. I would charge large diesel lorries and buses a premium tax as they are the main culprits.

Only because the UK motorist....any UK motorist has of late always been considered an easily exploitable cash cow for the government to mercilessly milk. An easily taxable “schmuck” who can easily be drained of his or her monies by virtue of wanting to get from point A to point B in relative comfort under their own power. They even cynically tax fuel tax. Yes, double taxation, and they’re getting away with it. And you get foxtrot alpha back in return.

Cash grab is indeed accurate. Have you seen the state of the roads in London lately? Like a freaking battle field. More money is spent on urban traffic calming measures than is spent on maintaining the roads. I can only wonder at the suspension repair bills many have to deal with. My wife’s car has already had two broken springs!

There’s always a new way dreamt up every year to metaphorically lower the britches of ordinary Joe Bloggs, drape him over a rusty barrel before they have their wicked way - all the while chortling all the way to the Bank.....

And then they renege on their duty of care to protect your vehicle you’ve been taxed half to death for, by allowing all manner of thieving vermin to brazenly help themselves to bits of your cars while ominously waving hand held weapons of intent at bystanders to warn them away.

They call the latter a “Victimless Crime”......so that’s alright then

It's always been the same in the UK — hit the motorist hardest.

    Guys
Today I parked in Lakeside shopping centre.
Came back tot he car, reversed and massive clunking noises - sounded like a boy racer car.
Got towed back. At the time the emergency rescue guy said it was the exhaust that had gone (his guess).
Just spent 45 min shooting video under the car. Couldn't find a thing.
The last video shot I took... shows something missing and a clean cut off part.
    I feel just gutted.
My car was a 2008 plate. Make money by thieving from the poor.

Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear what has happened, the same happened to me last month, in Bexleyheath Shopping centre.

I don't know if you've had a chance to read through this thread, but a few things to consider. If you're going through the insurance and they decide to fit a genuine (OEM) Toyota Catalytic converter, make sure you get a Catloc fitted to it after, this is to prevent it being stolen again (although if the bastards want it, they'll find a way), if a non genuine Cat is fitted, then it'll be best to find another way of protecting the new catalytic converter. There has been other methods posted on this thread.

Make sure you report it to the police, although as I've found, they don't give a shit about what happened. You'll need the reference if you go through insurance. All the best, try not to let it get you down.

Wonder if I can get away with having this sticker made up for the windows of the Prius? Please excuse the swearing.

Enough decals like that might embarrass the police into action? I know, wishful thinking.

I doubt it, I'd probably get prosecuted for using obscene language. I can get custom stickers made up, for about £15 ($19 ish) I can get a set made up, may have to tweak it though first!

I don’t see anything wrong with the sticker. Bright red with white lettering so it’s noticeable?

I unreservedly approve! Hell, I’d buy and install 2 x stickers.....though I’d probably be banned from the car park at work purely on the grounds of light profanity.....if the bosses ever spotted it.

What’s the obscene language in that sticker?

Never mind I see it now. If you can’t have that on a tiny little sticker on your car England is far further gone than I thought. You get the government you deserve. Don’t like the way things are? Get voting.
