VIDEO:is this Normal Coolant Movement in the inverter pump reservoir Tank

    Hello just wanted some input as I have no point of reference but does the movement in this Coolant tank look Normal and that the flow rate is as it should be ? from the inverter coolant Pump

    It's hard to tell whether the movement is caused by engine vibrations or the inverter pump doing what it is supposed to do. I believe that is why it is recommended that you check for movement in IG-ON mode (to get to there, press the Power button twice without your foot on the brake).

    On the Gen3 it’s not as obvious as the Gen2’s in terms of turbulence.

    Are you getting any codes on the dash?

    How many miles on your Prius?

    Yes, keeping the camera still as your record the video, as on a tripod, will allow us to make a better judgement about the effectiveness of the inverter pump. Also, when the car is IG-ON mode, you should be able to actually hear the inverter pump running, without any background noise from the ICE. The sound of the inverter pump running has been described as similar to an aquarium pump, a relatively quiet, steady hum.

    Hello thanks again for all the replys:)(y).

    There were error codes when read with a scan tool and warning lights on the dash but I cleared them and now despite how much load I put the hybrid system under I cant trigger a check engine warning light or check hybrid system error on the dash like before.

    the car has 623,000 + KM
    had a new engine 150,000 km ago owing to the con rod breaking
    new inverter 5000 km ago
    is on both original batterys
    no other Parts in the drivetrain have been replaced (TOYOTA quality Really is the best and this car has been amazingly reliable)

    I believe its the inverter water pump that caused my last errors and that caused the DC/DC inverter to overheat and then die as that makes logical sense as they work in tandem .

    yes Davecook89t that noise sounds familiar and I remember it but don't think you can hear it in the video at all. seems my inverter PUMP is dead despite what the DEPLHI SCAN TOOL says.

    a few days ago I spoke to a mechanic who is more experienced than myself in prius repair as he owns a prius repair shop and I asked him
    "can you tell if the inverter pump is dead by just looking at the reservoir tank and the movement of the coolant fluid "
    and he said
    "NO not all the time, we need to scan the car when your get a check engine light then come back"
    For this reason I dismissed the simple visual check of the coolant reservoir tank to a great extent
