My 2017 Prius Prime Advanced came with a Nav data card dated May of 2016. It was seriously outdated so in October 2018 I began asking my dealer when the annual data card release would occur. They said "not yet", so I kept asking monthly until March of 2019. Then I ordered the card online from McGeorge Toyota.
The data covers all the U.S. and comes on one micro-SD card. The card inserts into the bottom right edge of the Advanced 11-inch screen housing, a ridiculously difficult place to see or work with. Here are photos of the package and the process of installing it.
Here is the part number that is currently being issued:

This is a photo of the back side of the little plastic cover that hides the card slot. If you push up on the right (passenger) side of the cover you can get the left side to bend downward enough to grab it or pry it open with a small screwdriver blade. The tab on the left end just friction-fits into a slot and holds the cover in place.

Here is back side of the actual micro-SD card with the part number you need. This is about as wide as your little finger.

After you get the pre-existing data card to pop out a bit by pressing in on it with a narrow tool, you will need tweezers to pull it out of its slot. You push the new card into the slot until it engages. Then you turn on the power in your car. You see this message on the display that says "5 minutes to install and do software update". This is grossly incorrect. In my car, it took 35 or 40 minutes to read the software update. "Accessory mode" cut off after 30 minutes or so and I then got into the driver's seat, stepped on the brake pedal, and turning the Prime fully on. It resumed the software load and finished after about 40 minutes total. The warning to "not turn off the engine" did not seem to result in anything bad. As soon as the software was fully installed, I turned the engine off and then back on, and the nav database was now the new one.

You wait a long time with this message on the screen (about 40 minutes total in my car).

Here are the tools I used. The blunt end of the nail file worked to push in on the pre-existing data card to release it and also worked to push the new card into its slot. The tweezers are to pull out the pre-existing card.

After all the software is read, you see this message. Turn your car off and then on and you will complete the installation.

Here's the version number displayed by the new database. It seems to be current as of May 2018.

Here's the "Legal Information" my car now displays

My car is an Oct 2018 build. I wonder if it has the May map version.

    Thanks for the walk-through!

My car has a VT June 2018 inspection sticker and I'm pretty sure it has the '18 maps so your car should as well.

@dstrevel, what were you charged for the map update? I never updated the ones in my prior Prii because Toyota charged WAY too much for them. They could sell 1000X the updates if they charged what it cost them to create the file on the SD card plus something for profit. Not the IIRC $250 they wanted for the CDs and I bet it didn't cost them 10% of that to create them.

Pretty ridiculous pricing. How are the bean counters not smart enough to know they could actually make decent money selling in volume at a reasonable price. For $30 I'd likely buy a new one every couple of years if I plan to travel outside my local area. For $200 I'll never update.

Google isn't all that good either. Put in my address and it sets the mark 2 miles down the road. Had a delivery a few weeks ago, the guy called saying he was at 500 something where his nav placed 147. Guess his Nav is no better or is using Google. Oddly, if you put in my neighbor across the road, 146, Google places it correctly.

My car was built in May 2017 , i have the 2016 Maps ...

I bet the 40 mins install time is for the encryption ... so the card can't be used in any other car if one day you get a newer one

Interesting thought. You can swap Gen II DVDs to another car. I put the 2012 DVD from my totalled 2009 in my daughter's 2006. Still 7 years old (and of course the source data is older than that) but better than what she had.

WARNING! Don’t do what I did. Bought a factory card on eBay. Turned out to be the wrong card as after I installed it it put up an error message. So I reinstalled my old card. And now my Prius Advanced wont read it.

    Crap!
