    Honda named new generation Civic Hybrid, Insight. Nameplate means a little when they are generation apart.

    I thought they could only make 28,000 EVs?

    I always wondered how they figured the Prius Prime into that equation. I had a lot of questions about those statements. Anyways I don’t expect this to happen until 2021 at the earliest

    Where did you get that 28,000 figure? Toyota has made more than that!
    The Aussie spokesman seemed to consider the Prime as separate from the Prius. I know Toyota Australia thinks their market is not interested in the Prime or any PHEV.

    March 6th, 2019 article: The Simple Reason Toyota Doesn't Sell Any Full-Electric Vehicles

    Some Toyota executive told Car and Driver they can make 28,000 EVs or 1.5M Hybrids (per year) with their battery supply. It isn’t a total number made.

    Sounds like the Prime may become an orphan model like the Plug-in Prius.

    Still the article left me with more questions than the “simple” answer the Car and Driver author derived from his interview with the Toyota executive.

    hybrids become the norm in mass selling models? maybe in australia?(n)

    not enough cells for electric, not enough fueling stations for fuel cell, i hope they have enough evse's for phev :rolleyes:

    Of course, there is no supply of hydrogen just like there is no supply of electrons.
    You have to use energy to create both in a usable form.

    Not with 4 seats, I suspect. 4 seat versions of some cars have bombed in the market.

    Not at the current price - plus, they're like EVs here, it would use Dirty Coal Power to make Hydrogen - won't happen in my lifetime I reckon.

    Meanwhile, Petrol and Diesel engines are still having mega$$$ spent on them, and the efficiency is improving the same or better than PRIUS which has improved by about 10-13% for each generation. There is no end of them in sight.

    Example - (Petrol) 2004 Golf 8.5l/100km, 2011 Golf 6.5 l/100 (30% better), 2019 Golf 5.4 l/100 (12% better).

    We'll have to disagree about "same or better than PRIUS" based on EPA data but this is really unimportant. The ones with the gold, the customers, will decide.

    What engines were adressed in this example?

    From what I can get, real figures filtered with 120hp output max:

    (5th gen 2003-2008) - 7,49 l/100km
    Gasoline consumption: Volkswagen - Golf - Spritmonitor.de

    (6th gen 2008-2012) - 6,88 l/100km
    Gasoline consumption: Volkswagen - Golf - Spritmonitor.de

    (7th gen 2012-current) - 6,31 l/100km
    Gasoline consumption: Volkswagen - Golf - Spritmonitor.de


    Still not good when looking at the values Prius produced

    (1st Gen Prius) - 5,51 l/100km

    Gasoline consumption: Toyota - Prius - Spritmonitor.de

    (up to 2003 cars)

    I thought Japan was already doing that in Australia and shipping the Hydrogen to Japan. That makes Hydrogen a clean fuel for them. Not so clean for Australia.
