My 2012 PiP had a display that showed the total EV and HV miles I had driven, but I can't find this anywhere in the Prime. All I can find is some stupid ratio that will have a 2,000 mile margin of error when the car gets to 100,000 miles. I'm really hoping I'm just being dense and can't find it.

I don’t know of any such display, no. If I recall correctly, and I may not, the %EV ratio, is “since reset,” meaning that it is (in essence) “recently,” as opposed to over the life of the car.

pip has two driving ratios that showed ev and hv miles and percent. i use one for tank and one lifetime.

prime (and gen 4 prius) has added engine off time to ev miles, but i would think it still tracks them somewhere.

I don't know what PIP had, but on PRIME, there is no display that shows the amount of EV mode drive (ratio or distance) you have done. The EV Driving Ratio shown on the Drive Monitor is the EV portion of the distance run which includes when the car goes into EV while driving in HV mode.

If you never reset average fuel consumption data corresponding to ODO display, then Drive Monitor display showing EV Driving Ratio is for the lifetime of the car corresponding to the ODO distance.

With the caveat that it includes all EV driving, even in HV mode (and the engine is off).

    Thanks for the memory-refresh!

What’s curious is that my “since-reset” time is shown as 61:47. According to the manual, that’s “reset” by holding down the “TRIP” button while displaying ODO (total miles). I hardly ever even touch that button, let alone hold it down. So, it’s a little bit of a mystery to think that 2 1/2 days ago, I must have pushed and held it. I guess I must have...

The "Elapsed Time" displayed on the Drive Monitor has an upper limit of 99:59 (hr:min). After that, it goes back to 00:00. Your 61:47 is showing only last 61:47(hr:min) since it turned around to 00:00. The real time you have driven the car could be 161:47, or 261:47 or 361:27 or so on. The time is actual time the car is READY and driven, not counting when the car is off. If you don't remember resetting it, it probably has not been reset.

I wonder why Toyota would think it wise to conceal the information from the owner? The car "knows" the exact EV and HV miles, or it wouldn't be able to calculate the driving ratio.I never understand what drives product managers to REMOVE features from products. It's all downside from a customer satisfaction standpoint. I guess Toyota has enough market share that they don't have to care, but even then what do they gain? Why irritate your customers for no reason?

Is this information that can be obtained via ODBII?

As mentioned before the EV Driving Ratio is not the same thing as what you are seeking. This ratio includes EV portion of drive under HV mode. AFAIK, there is no OBDII or anything else that can retrieve data on the actual EV drive miles and HV drive miles if such data actually is stored in the ECU.

As it should. I want to know how many miles were under ICE power and how many were under battery power. What button was activated in the cabin at the time is irrelevant to anything other than curiosity.

so, if you reset the trip meter, and track total miles, won't the ratio tell you how many of each?

Yes, but only to the nearest percentage point. At 25,0000 miles the margin of error is almost 500 miles. By 140,000 (the current mileage on my PiP), your margin of error is ±2,790 miles.

If that is what you want, then ratio is all you need to calculate the distance. What I thought you wanted to know is HV mode drive by electricity charged from the grid, and HV mode drive propelled by gas (which does include EV drive but the charge comes from the gas burned in ICE).

The EV ratio has a *huge* margin of error. If my PiP had this "feature" the current uncertainty on actual EV miles driven would be ±2,790 miles. It would make scheduling ICE service based on actual ICE usage a guessing game.

Well, if you think +/- 1% is a huge margin of error, then I can't suggest anything better. The Driving Ratio already include some instances when the car is running EV but ICE is on. Or there are some instances when the car is in EV mode but not using any energy from the battery such as during downhill. Considering all those variables, knowing exact miles driven with ICE on or off and miles driven with battery supplied propulsion would become a guessing game any way. Then, +/- 1% margin of error is totally acceptable for most purpose I can think of.
