Be WARNED=New type cans of 134a freon

They use those in places other than California? We have been using those for years. Do they make you pay a 10 dollar deposit on the can? They do that in California. They usually have “adapter needed” on the can, didn’t your can have that? Once you have the adapter it’s a good setup. You use 1/2 a can the rest wont leak out. That used to happen to me with those other cans.

 

The difficulty is that $10 deposit goes away after 30 days IIRC, at least it did so once on me. I now keep the empty can for when I buy my next one and return the old one.

Instructions note to leave the adapter/line connected to the can, if not completely used.

 

I thought it was 90 days? Either way I have one like that and one from my dad. I always have a return can. I never leave the can attached, and they never leak that way. Even after a year.

 

It could be 90 days and I apologize if I am mistaken. Either way I was pretty grumpy about losing that $10. I’ve had a can go bad, (on my brother-in-law). Oh well, we don’t really like each other much anyways. (I suggested he tried it on a Honda Odyssey with A/C non-functional, before deciding to replace the compressor. Of course I didn’t realize it was dead until I tried it myself later). You could feel fluid still inside but it wouldn’t dispense. Ever since I keep the adapter on as instructed on the AC Pro cans...

 

In Louisiana we just started using the new Schrader valve cans and you use a blue adapter if you want to put refrigerant in the car with the single hose single gauge setup. The issue comes when you use the double gauge set up and the old brass puncture can sitting with the pointed tip doesn't properly open the Schrader valve because when you screw it down it opens to Schrader valve but then also closes the valve body and doesn't allow 134 into the AC system. Automotive dealership repair parts place are not aware that they need to sell you the new identical in size and shape and style brass adapter but it has a different shape pain and valve opening internally. I struggled with just two weeks ago changing the EVAP core and expansion valve but the gauge is kept telling me I had equal pressure on both sides and it took hours before I realize that the valve wasn't allowing refrigerant in. I had to then go school to AutoZone and my friends at O'Reilly so that they could filter it out to the rest the parts of dealers. And no, there is no deposit core on a can.

We also are not getting rid of drinking straws. Giggle giggle, just a California thing
