Well I have 2011 prius, it has 99000 km on it. Last week suddenly I got check engine light with some other lights on the dashboard. I suddenly stopped the car and disconnected the battery. When I restarted the dashboard was clear with no light, then I got scanned the vehicle there were no codes.
After I drive almost 200kms suddenly the check engine light with some other lights again came on, again I followed the same procedure disconnected the battery and it is okay now, what can be the reason, suggestions needed from senior members and experts please

When you disconnected the battery, the code(s) were erased. You want to scan for codes with check engine light on.

Bring those codes here and we’ll help you troubleshoot.

Well I had done that 10 days ago there were no codes found, the mechanic said everything is okay nothing to worry about.

You need to do it AGAIN......at an actual Toyota shop.
IF......the car will still run, you should NOT be disconnecting the battery.

Okay means I should scan when the check light is on, and not do disconnect the battery at that time

    Yes.
No need to do anything until the warning lights come ON again.
It likely would be a waste of time.

NOBODY can tell you what the problem might be without a code scan while the trouble lights are showing.

    Well, that's not entirely true.
IF.....it still has the original 12 V battery in it, getting a new one would be a good place to start.

The mech said that it's the hybrid battery issue needs to check the cells inside the battery?

One of the modules in block 4 has a cell out more than likely. So getting Techstream readout of what block 4 is will confirm the code.

Knowing where the problem is will help determine the next steps:
    • Rebuild yourself (if you have the correct equipment or want to procure it)
    • Purchase a new battery
    • Purchase a new cell kit
Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Well the issue is solved, the mechanic checked all the 28 cells and measured the voltage, 2 cells shown voltages 6.8 and 5.8, both were replaced. I just came home everything worked perfect for now. Thanks all of you

You mean the issue is solved for now;).

If the mechanic did a simple module swap, you’ll be doing the same repair again and then again and again:cool:.

If no conditioning or balancing of the pack was performed, the new cells won’t be acclimated to the original ones, so it won’t be long before the pack is again out of balance requiring additional attention.

    Good luck (y).

    What he said. (y)

The remaining cells are just as old as the ones that failed.
They probably will fail soon too.

Based on reports from other owners, I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that you can now go 2 years without any additional HV battery trouble. Some people don't even make it 2 weeks.

Did his comments come with a guarantee or warranty?

Reconditioning the pack ensures that all modules are balanced and “equal”. Did he give you the serial numbers off of the modules he swapped in?

If not, the cells could be newer (or older than your original pack) and then cause the pack to vary even more.

So a simple module swap buys time, but just kicks the can down the road further and does not solve the root cause ;).

    Hope that helps(y).
