    dear all,

I have an issue trying to remove a 10mm bolt that was holding up the tank heat shield, basically when I turn the bolt the whole thing turns and is not loosening. Does anyone have any methods on removing the bolt at all please?

    Picture of bolt attached (hopefully!)

Looks like a bolt going into a weld-nut? Get a wrench on the weld-nut to restrain everything from turning? Something like an electric impact wrench might help too. And/or heat the weld-nut?

I've tried gripping the outside of the nut to stop it turning but not working, its on the fuel tank itself so don't want to introduce heat to it as may make things a lot worse! I'm going to see if I can manipulate the new shield around the washer to hold it in place. Thanks for the reply.

    Hah, good point.

Toyota's bolt specs are atrocious by the way: any of the small bolts on the underside, especially when there's winter road salt, rust up fast.

did you manage to get these off? I have exactly the same issue with mine and can’t get them to come out. Seem to be screwed into a plastic lug on the bottom of the fuel tank. I suspect there’s a metal insert that they screw into which is now turning in the hole...

    Any advice gratefully received!

Basically, no. I asked Toyota to do it and they said that they couldn’t, so I ended up doing it myself.

I basically made the hole on the new shield a little bigger, this was to make sure itndittes over the washer that is attached on the fuel tank. I then made a bracket shaped like a C to slide between the new shield and the washer, to hold it in place. If you need any more advice let me know.
