Well... it didn’t explode, but that engine probably isn’t going to run again. I like this guy’s YouTube channel, hope you enjoy...

@cnc97 beat you to it. :)

Still, wonder why it blew? I'm guessing nitrous is something you need to trickle in, and he didn't have a regulator??

I still think his “Car Wizard” should try and put the 1NZ out of the C in it. Those engines are cheap and plentiful in the Wichita area he lives in. Then there would be answers to all of the inter-generational compatibility between Prii.

No, I was first. He used time travel and cheated. Doesn’t count.

His Prius was a Gen II, probably a 10+ year-old car, a very low performance engine that wasn’t modified to support the added stress, on an engine that was darn close to its end of life. No surprise at all that it blew. I guess he just wanted to make the video and get the clicks for it.

I'm still curiously why it would blow so suddenly. He makes no mention of the plumbing involved, just the bottle at the back. And the button...

No clue, and not the slightest interest lol, but you'd think the kosher way would involve some sort of regulator, to gradually ramp up the nitrous oxide amount.

Nitrous adds O2, you need to add extra fuel or your air/fuel mixture is lean.

Yeah I was thinking that too. The MAF sensor just monitors the fuel volume, has no clue about the added volatility. Ugh.

Most dry shot systems, which I’m assuming he had, have jet sizes up to 125 hp. Let’s hope he didn’t go for the gusto and put the biggest jet in it. I think, based on the skid mark in the ground, the ICE “ceased to exist intact” due to catastrophic, extreme engine RPM in excess of Toyota design limits. It was very wet, and I can tell you from experience that my Gen 3 can spin the tire to the point the ECU shuts all throttle down until the car stops moving completely. On wet pavement, as he was.

What that guy in the video is trying to say is..."Hey world...I'm a dumb-arse and want everyone to know it."

He blew it up the same way everyone does- leaned out the mix.

You need to know how much oxidizer is going in and then make absobloodycertain you've got the appropriate amount of additional fuel going in or this happens.

He's just screwing around, trying to come up with enough youtube views to rent some avocado toast.

Leadfoot is right on the trail of what went wrong. If you can't supply the fuel then the oxygen overtakes the fuel and you've leaned out the mixture ratio so much with pure oxygen that you created a detonation instead of a deflagration instead of pure simple ignition expansion. Yes, technically it was an explosion. The other thing he did wrong was he wasn't going fast enough and therefore only at a super low fuel rate. The low speed electric motor was possibly still engaged. He he dumped the nitro at maybe 25 miles an hour.

Rich guy with money to burn, not to mention he had his daughter head right next to where he was trying to hook up a bottle that could have asphyxiated her if it let loose in the car.

Anybody thinking he may have faked this whole thing?

That's his whole schick, but that's partly what makes it a fun channel. I haven't watched this yet, but posted about previous episodes in this Prius. I like that he thinks differently than all the other car Youtubers, such as always saying the Buick Park Avenue Ultra is the best ever American car.
