Was at the dealership getting the scheduled stuff done, and was talking with the Parts Guy here and he mentioned that you may be able to pull apart for another Toyota vehicle and replace the wiper arm on the Prius but has not experimented to see which would work.

Has anyone found some way to mod or replace the arm so we can gain our sanity back and buy the wiper blades we want, and not the junk blade refills. I go through them in about 2 months, and get annoyed after 3 and replace them. My Bosch Icons lasted at least close to or over a year on my Subaru at 1/4 the cost of what I'm having to pay on the refills for this Prius every few months.

    Hoping someones tried something.

It’s more than just a Portland Tax. The refill blades are junk. Why can my Subaru have a set that lasts 11-14 months and my Prius go dead after 1-2 months and replace after 3 months generally.

But regardless was wondering if anyone has tried replacing the wiper blade arm to the motor?

My OEM lasted over a year. I replaced them with some I found on Amazon. It was cheaper than the dealership but the driver side wiper started streaking after a few months. I just replaced it yesterday with one from the dealership and it was $30 for ONE WIPER! I think it’s that darn connector that makes it difficult to find replacements.

Correct, in the Fourth Gen Prius's and some of the Primes, they changed the connector on the end of the wiper blade arm so you can only use their terrible wiper blades and even worse blade refills. It's skinnier and the buttons that lock it into place are different sizes than the typical click in ones found on other Toyota models.

I haven't needed to replace any wipers yet on my Prime. But the Toyota refills for Gen 2 & 3 last for years here in the heat, sun, and dusty pollen of Florida. Aftermarkets ones give me a couple months at best and cost 3-4 times as much.

There's a few third party brands now. I have Bosch Aerotwins on my 4th Gen.

Who knows if the quality of older Gen Prius's is different, but Gen 4 wiper blades and refills suck in the Pacific North West. And Gen 4 has different connectors so off the shelf wipers don't work. So if you are out in the middle of the night and need new blades, you'll have to wait for the Dealership to open up. :-(

I think Gen4 OEM wiper blades are the same Toyota parts as for PRIME. Parts# are Blade 85222-47130 and 85212-47130, rubber refills 85214-78010 and 85214-47110. Out of a fear of losing wiper blade in a snowstorm which has happened more than once in the past, I purchased spare wiper blades and refill rubbers from an online Toyota dealer shop right after I purchased my car. That was two years ago. I still have the original OEM wipers on my car. At least the OEM wipers that came on my 2017 PRIME has been excellent for durability. I have never had aftermarket wiper blades last this long. All this for a car parked outside year around and exposed to ice and snow at subzero temp all winter long. The OEM blades are ~$35 pair which is not much more than aftermarket premium wiper blades. The refill rubbers are less than half of that price.
