Hello, I'm looking for an online shop that ships and does work on replacing Hybrid Batters on Toyota Prius as recently the car has been giving 'Check Hybrid' light check. I've had a friend whose a mechanic use his gauges to check and he said I needed new Hybrid Batteries. I'll go to my local Toyota dealer first before I commit to replacing the batteries, but I wish to know which is the best place on the internet to shop and purchase new Hybrid batteries for my 2011 Toyota Prius please.

Welcome. The best place could very well be your local dealer. Not many places ship new batteries. Unless you return the old one to get back the core charge, it will be hyper expensive.

Your location is pretty unspecific since you just say US. We could name several places where you could locally get a new one for less than Toyota's usual price if we know what local meant to you.

Noted, I have considered a local dealer and do have a local Toyota dealer nearby that I plan on going to check up on the Prius's issues. Is there any online stores that you know of that you would recommend? My place is at Gloucester, Virginia if you wish.

Before you do anything with the battery.......you need to have the diagnosis confirmed at the Toyota dealer.

Then......if you do find some place to ship you a new battery, who will install it for you ??
It is not as easy as replacing a 12 V one.

By the time you pay for a new battery, pay for the shipping, pay someone to install it and pay to ship the old one back........your total cost might be about the same as having the dealer do it. And that will be a LOT less hassle too.

Speaking of the 12 V battery, you should have that checked too. Sometimes if it is getting weak it will cause false readings of other things being bad when they are not.

Sorry for the late response. The miles on it are nearly 250000 at 249400 miles. Other than the check hybrid battery light on which I normally hard reset the Prius until I get the needs to get a battery to replace it, the Prius drives fine.

I’ve had it checked out and it does seem to be the Hybrid battery. I did not knew about shipping the old one back so I’ll have to consider that too. Toyota gave me a price of 2700 Usd to ship the new battery and replace it. This does not count the 500 usd of labor I need to put in as well. How does this sound?

That's a little steep. They'll install for 2700+500? One thing, I believe IF they install, the warranty goes from one year to three. Also, if there's ANY issues, if they're doing the install, there's no finger pointing. I think more typically, the battery's a bit cheaper, but the labour's more, so maybe a wash.

There's an alternative here, someone offering cylindrical replacement cells, and no core charges, you keep your old cells. It's for gen 2 AND 3 I believe, but have a read:

Well good news, I've gone with Greenbean to replace my hybrid battery and it's now working like a charm. With the bad battery removed and the new hybrid replaced so quickly and efficiently, I'm more than willing to go back to them and even highly recommend folks to go for Greenbean for their hybrid battery needs. Thank you guys so much for the help.

My 2011 I bought used 2 years ago just came up with the Check Hybrid System message. It only has 115K miles on it. Took it to a Hybrid place here, they said all my cells are in the 14's, except 1 in the 13's and 1 in the 12's and my battery needs replacement or they could refurbish, replace cells, etc...They get their "new" batteries from Best Hybrid Batteries, but I learned those aren't really new. I bought my car from Tampa Hybrids and Todd has been helpful over the past couple days as I am in Tucson now, not Tampa.
He vehemently opposes the refurbished ones. He states I should get a new from dealer or a used on LKQ from a 2015, etc...
I am looking for further guidance bc the dealer one is really expensive and if I get one on LKQ it only has a 6 month warranty and would end up with shipping and installation costing between $1500-$1900 and to me that seems like a lot for no warranty to speak of.

Can anyone lend any guidance? I have been thinking about it for 3 days and need to decide, just not well versed. @jerrymildred @bisco @Raytheeagle @JC91006 @Prodigyplace any ideas? Thinking of getting one from @2k1Toaster just wish the warranty was a little longer than 2 years, but think even at the dealership you only get 1 year. Any advice as to the LKQ/used option which Todd says is my second best option if not new...Thanks in advance all...want to just get it fixed and move on!

cost around 1950 usd or over a 1200 usd cheaper than what the Toyota dealer was offering me. Five-year warranty vs. Toyota's 3 year. And finally everything went smoothly and my Prius is moving around without any hiccups to power or so.

Welcome. Sorry about the battery. You're really close to being in warranty. There's a chance that Toyota might give you some help. I agree with Todd. The rebuilds are expensive trouble. I can usually find trouble for free. New is best, but I also hear really good stuff about @2k1Toaster's kit. If Toyota sells and installs your battery, last I knew it was a 3-year warranty. 1-year if you install it. But being a new battery, you should be able to count on it lasting for another 8-10 years or more. Gently used batteries can be good. Tucson is a big enough city that I'm surprised you can't find them locally.

Bottom line: if it was my car and I planned to keep it a while, I'd either get a new battery from Toyota (or someone else who sells them new) and install it myself, or else get the kit from 2k1toaster. As long as you're not disabled, if you have a ratchet and a set of metric sockets, it's pretty easy to replace. Lots of videos. I replaced the battery in my wife's '07 with a Gen 2 housing full of 2015 cells that I got from Todd. Piece of cake.

Thanks so much Jerry and all. I ended up getting a Green Bean with the lifetime warranty for $1649. I understand the risks, but it was the best choice for me in the end. The new at dealerships here were $3400 and could offer no goodwill credit and that included the core discount, which really doesn't seem like much of a thing anymore. The LKQ or used option came with only a 6 month warranty and with installation (I wouldn't do it myself/by myself here) would have cost almost $2000 with only a 6 month warranty. I have no way of knowing how long the battery has sat around in stock, how it was treated, whether it was run if sat for long period of time, etc... not enough of a warranty for the cost and uncertainty. The battery will be installed next week. We'll see how it goes. GB has a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Yelp or Google with almost 300 reviews. They just added Honda to the brands of car batteries they replace. Also, since I travel nurse it works for me in the sense that they are nationwide (except for Wyoming and North Dakota) so that if there is an issue at some point I won't have to return to where I got the battery to fix or replace (probably wouldn't have been an issue with the dealership). They do require the codes for replacement, but stated I could go to O' Rielly's or similar place to get them/wouldn't have to pay for diagnostic from dealer, etc...2k1toaster's was an option too, but I just needed to do something simple right now with a longer warranty. I sincerely appreciate all the input.

Sorry that the dealers prices are so high. I wonder if they have to take of their shirts to use the toilet.

Hopefully, you'll beat the odds and not need that warranty too soon.

And can people please acknowledge that they are comparing cost of a NEW battery with that of a USED battery.
    They are two different things.

Nuke87654, you call it a new battery.
But as you hopefully know, it is NOT a new battery.
It is as used battery. Made up of modules that came from other car's batteries.
It can not ever last as long as a new battery.

But does it have a longer warranty? Yes. Yes it does.
Is it less expensive than a new battery? Of course, used things generally are less expensive.

Will the used battery last longer than a new one? No. No it won't.
But hopefully it lasts long enough for your use.
