Personally, I'd ignore them, particularly the first - unless
1) it's in the service schedule (I can't spot it in the Australian schedule);
2) it's broken - which it isn't; or
3) you plan on keeping it for a REALLLLY long time, like 500,000km - maybe the Transmission service?? - I know some on PriusChat have suggested it. Though, in 3½ yrs on PriusChat, I've not heard of a Transmission which failed.

To be honest - I have no idea what they're talking about with "Internal Combustion Service". Sounds dodgy to me.

 

^^^agreed^^^ if you want to keep it for more than 150,000 miles, it might be worth doing a tranny oil change, but that shouldn't be more than $100.or so.

 

I imagine that the "transmission service" is simply changing the fluid. That's easier than changing the oil. Lots of threads here on how to do that. Don't let them feed you garbage about a flush. There's no such thing with the Prius transaxle with is nothing like a typical transmission.

An engine service could be almost anything.

 

I just had a discussion with a friend who has just bought a Direct Injection vehicle. Since buying it, he's having "Buyer's Remorse" when he read something about problems with buildup around the inlet valves of DI engines. I did a bit of googling - and there is mention in a couple of places about a Combustion Chamber service for DI engines - which, seemingly seems more relevant to older designs.

I wonder if the OP's Dealer has no idea that a PRIUS is Sequential Multi-Port Injection, not DI?

 

Both "services" seem vague, likely intentionally.

The "transmission service" if it indeed is a transaxle drain-and-fill, should be around $80, definitely no more than $100.

The other, I'd waive, especially if that's all the info they provide. Could be anything.

 

Time before last service I had, the dealer recommended a fuel system additive (£20) as I was collecting the car. I said no thanks as I only use premium fuels which already have detergents in, the service guy said they had already put it in but as I didn't want it, no charge. They had actually overdosed it too as there was only a couple of gallons of fuel in it at the time, it wasn't running 100% until I filled the tank again to dilute the stuff. When I took it for the last one I told them, before the service, not to put any fuel system cleaner in.
