Wish list for my 2016 Prius v three

    Hope I'm posting in right place. Just bought used 2016 Prius v, need to add a few things to make it into the perfect "micro rv" like my 95 Corolla wagon was for 2+ decades. Have seen some things on similar threads, but some are old, links don't work or get confusing....apologies if redundant...

    1. Roof Rack--not too pricey, removable ok, mainly need for occasionally transporting sheets of plywood 3 miles from Lowes, or a piece of furniture, or maybe putting cartop carrier with camping supplies. Seemed it's hard to find for 2016 v?

    2. Window covers--for privacy, mainly, for sleeping in car. On my corolla wagon, I made curtains, stuck up with velcro, but thought someone made special ones for this model? I don't use ebay, so any other sites have for this model? I saw someone used carboard, but not sure they would hold up well in our mess. I liked the cloth that I could fold up. I also have some padded packaging? Stuff, silver on one side, not sure where cane from, wondered if that would work?

    3. also, I think some have bought or made bug screens? (Don't usually need but thought I'd look into)

    4. Rain deflectors over back winows only (mainly for dog)

    5. Platform--not sure why Toyota did not make the back lie flat, like they did in my Corolla wagon, but glad to see others think like I do, and have done modifications. Can't wait to try....think I'll remove both back seats (just me and big dog, who is in it daily), so folks who have done this, not posted, or want to update, I am looking forward to reading more of your clever ideas.

    On my 2012 Prius v I got used Yakima towers and crossbars form a local new and up-cycle roof rack store. Cost me around $100 and I can easily take them off or move them around as needed. It's had no issues with plywood sheets or a stack of insulation panels to create a hexayurt.

    For window panels I use those springy sunshades for the front and not much else since I don't camp in the car. I have friends who use reflectix bubble wrap in their cars or RVs and swear by it. Then there are those who just use thin insulation panels and also swear by it. You would need to frame them somehow however. I've considered going this route this year and was thinking about 3D printing frame parts to hold one of them. But this project is so far on the back burner it might be something that happens this year. My worry about velcro is just how much the lining pills as it is.

    For flat back I built something similar to this How to Make a Prius V Into a Camper: 8 Steps for better storage organization. Those back seats are a PITA to get out.

    Something else to consider. A hitch if you don't have one. Lot's of great hitch based bike racks and cargo beds to consider.

    How on earth did you get Yakima towers and crossbars for $100? I've been pricing these out, and they come in at around $500.

    Didn't you see that he bought "used Yakima towers and crossbars form a local new and up-cycle roof rack store"?

    Used stuff like that is valuable but there's not much of a market for it. I've got used new-condition Yakima cross bars with lockable towers and lockable snow ski carriers for both aero and rain gutters in my storage room that would cost $500+ new but no one was interested when I posted them for sale on a corporate bulletin board. I'll probably eventually give them to a charity. It's not worth my time to box them up and sell them online.
