I wonder what that extremely regular sawtooth of the red line is: guessing summer/winter?

Yeah, I think we need to get outa our cars, break this addiction.

Changing out the first few-hundred incandescent bulbs with CFL or LED didn’t help much either. However, we got going with that decades ago. There are now very few incandescents, and that *has* made quite a bit of difference!

In other words, it takes time, and in the meantime, enjoy not having to pump gas much!

It’s the cow farts that contribute to CO2 increase more than cars. Europe is banning incandescent bulbs already if not soon, and California I think is going to be banning cows.

Prime owners along with lots of other folks are making a difference. It's just hard to see or measure the effects right now.

To use an analogy, it's like the world's population is on one of those early rowing warships with hundreds of oars in the water all pulling forward towards a massive waterfall. Hybrid, EV, and economy car owners along with everyone employing various methods of living green and/or reducing one's foot print on the earth are the equivalent of pulling several of those oars out of the water already.

Now, we need to get the vast majority of those other rowers (insert your own examples here: I'll use massive truck/suv owners) to pull their oars out of the water too. That may seem like the hard part but it's not. Because this massive ship has built up incredible momentum (plus the natural flow of the water headed towards the falls) we need to get as many of those oars back in the water but all rowing backwards to halt this ship's momentum and steer us over to a mooring spot in a safe harbor. This will be more radical permanent type changes like checked birthrates, massive diet changes, near elimination of burning fossil fuels, etc. That will be the hard part.

Everyone's "onboard" whether they know it or not.

Just to clarify, the cow problem is mostly methane, not the CO2 displayed on that chart,, and it is mostly by respiration and belching, not farting.

No, that's methane which is (I think) rated at 4 times more powerful than CO2 in terms of greenhouse warming.

Methane also has a more acute warming effect. It traps about 84 times as much heat as CO2 over a 20-year period, and 28 times as much over the course of a century.

I wish that Kurzgesagt would make an informative video on whether or not electrifying cars/buses/planes (including the CO2-processes involved in making the batteries) would really help...

Thanks for clarifying that, guys. It’s commonly heard about the “cow farts” issue but I was working off my memory which isn’t always accurate.

I forgot to mention that the solution to reducing the cow emissions problem is to stop eating meat. Fish, chicken, and turkey do it for me. Not eating cow meat means the cow farming industry won’t have as many cows which should reduce emissions.

All true. I suspect that that reply was at least partly-joking though.

all those gas mowers cutting grass?

Let native plants grow in your yard. The birds and bees like them better too.
