Prius not turning off at stop signs. I have a 2012 Toyota Prius, and I recently noticed something after I thought I had gotten bad gas but it is continuing off and on . I recently noticed that also that it was revving even after I had started going downhill and it would not go into EV Mode. And the engine was running and it was not charging the battery. And I pulled over to wait for the car to go into EV mode and it continues to run, I pulled up my screen and looked to see if it was charging my battery and it was not.I also have 138,000 miles on the car and it has been dealer serviced since now I am the second owner and I have been changing my oil every 5000 miles using the recommended oil for the car. This is my 12 Prius so I am very familiar having Prius . I have been doing a lot of research and I have noticed that a lot of older Prius is with more than 140,000 miles are needing a EGR cleaning or replacement, with this cause this issue to happen?

How hot was the ambient temp when that happened? HV will not charge and discharge if the hv battery temp is passes a certain threshold. Happened to me before, just pull over and turn on the AC, hv fan will circulate cold air in the assembly then drive away when arrows points back to hv bat.

Well it was raining outside and probably in the low 70s.. Also I’ve noticed some blank minute increments on my screen showing my miles per gallon which I thought was strange even know I was driving, every so often there would be a blank minute, I have had no lights come on my dash whatsoever my car is running perfectly fine except for Engine revving after I’ve gotten over a hill it takes a wild for the engine speed to settle back down and normally it goes right into EV mode the minute you take your foot off the gas, this does not happen engine continues to run even though you’re going downhill and well under the 42 mph speed when the EV would work. Also have come up to a stop sign or signal and was waiting for the engine to turn off and go into EV mode and this does not happen. I was just wondering if this was caused because of a dirty or worn out EGR ?

it is certainly worth cleaning the egr, regardless. if it doesn't help, maybe consider a prolong system

Maybe I missed it, but did you ever say what the State of Charge (SOC) on your Traction Battery when this occurs? If Traction Battery is full, it will not charge anymore, and it will rev the gas motor when coasting downhill and while stopped. All normal to prevent overcharging of the Traction Battery...

So my 12 V battery in the back of my vehicle could need replacing? And why would this affect my car this way? And why would my engine be racing after going down a hill and not going into EV mode?

And yes I do know when the hybrid battery gets full, and you’re going downhill and you have it in the B mode, And yes the engine revs to disburse the energy that it cannot put back into the hybrid battery yes I am fully aware of that tendency of the Prius, but this is not the case. I have noticed that when I am going uphill of course it revs up to go over hills, but it takes a wild for the revs of the engine to settle back down and also it is not going into EV mode when this is happening it takes a long time for the engine to settle back down. Also it does not go into EV mode,At stop signs or signals.

@Kevin Henry , you've probably still got a few hours where you can edit the thread title. Look for a button in the upper right corner of the intitial posting.

I went back and checked, it is the original exhilarate battery, which means it’s seven years old now, how long did they last? Most cars that’s way too long but the dealer told me it’s a special kind of battery. But also my car almost has 140,000 miles so maybe it is time to replace that battery anyways?

Yes I tried to go back and edit it, it’s not allowing me to, maybe because I’m not a member yet, I’m having trouble with the initial code and the whole 15 minute thing. Sorry I’m a newbie

I’ll take mjoo route next to troubleshoot. If your 12v can’t hold a steady charge anymore, ICE and hv battery will continuously charge it until it’s reaches it’s full mark.

It's a vented lead acid battery you can order at most auto part stores. They usually last 5-6 years.

Should be AGM type though. Most battery retailers will allow you to enter your car info and will come up with compatible battery.

Yes if you noticed on my dash my EV light is not illuminated, and you can clearly see by the gauge that I’m getting over 100 miles per gallon and it’s clearly in EV mode And my motor is not running.
