This question may have been answered a lot of time on the internet yet the answers varies to a degree.

So, how often or at what intervals do you drain the engine oil?

On the Toyota manual, they have recommended to change the oil at every 5000 miles (8000 kilometers) or 6 months, whichever comes first in case one uses Toyota Genuine or equivalent engine oil.

Then again, brands like Mobil-1, Liqui Molly etc. has various 0W-20 engine oil with recommended drain period interval well over Toyota's recommendation.

When i was working, I changed the oil every 10,000 miles, (2 months) as that is the US Oil Change Interval.
Now that I am retired I change it yearly as I am not going 10,000 miles a year.

I suspect Toyota in Bangladesh is sceptical of the quality of motor oil and uses a shorter OCI.

My manual states to change every 15,000 km and I have it done once a year which usually is about 18,000 km.

Actually Toyota USA recommended oil changes every 5K miles, then later on they changed it to 10k miles. Why? Because that is when Toyota started to offer 2 years or 24,000 miles of free service. Interesting that our neighbors to the North, Canada follows 5,000 mile oil changes. I do mine at 5,000 miles and I use Mobil 1 oil at 0W-40 weight

Toyota Canada, for 3rd gen, says 8000 kms or 6 months, whichever comes first. I'm sticking with that, and it's invariably months for our usage.

I'm using bulk Toyota 0W20 oil, and their filter.

Maybe overkill, but with my DIY setup it's quite cheap, and gives me something to do.

I'm doing basic maintenance on a couple of other vehicles as well.

There is no Prius manual for Bangladesh since Toyota Bangladesh do not sell Prius over here. All the Prius on the road are JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) and imported as new or reconditioned.

Actually I was referring to Toyota US/Canada manual where 5000 miles/6 months is mentioned.

I think the quality of motor oil won't be an issue here since almost all top brands are available here now.

I drive to deliver pizzas. I change every 5,000 miles with Mobil1 0w 20. On average I change it about every 3 months.

I have changed at 1k and the at 5k and then 5 intervals thereafter. I drive about 10k miles a year. ~90% of the trips are short, ~80% of the miles are 70MPH.

10,000 miles or 12 months, but if you drive in harsh conditions, i would stick with 6 months or 5,000 miles

I would say it’s a bit harsh condition here in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh.

Not the best quality of fuel, often mixed with another or contaminated. Summer temperature is 40 degree Celsius. Average speed in city traffic during peak hours is usually never more than 15 kilometers per hour with dead stuck at traffic signals.

Here oil change interval is 15k km/1 year. I change every ~7k km.
    I drive about 25k km/year.

Yes, dusty and humid. I usually clean both filters once in a couple of weeks though.

I see that in the USA, Toyota recommends an oil change every 10k miles if you're using synthetic, but here in Canada they recommend every 8,000km which is about 5k miles. What is up with this?

With the 4th gen Prius (2016 model year and up), Toyota Canada switched, to 16K kms (~10K miles) or 12 months, whichever comes first. But yeah, with 3rd gen, it's as you said.

I have a hard time rationalizing how there can be a 100% difference, and I doubt it's all down to the engineers, more likely marketing?

FWIW, we're now ultra low miles with our 2010, but I still stick with the 8k kms or 6 months, whichever comes first.
