Now that the 2020 Prime is out, from screenshots it appears that Toyota has possibly somehow used the same stereo and has CarPlay working with Entune 2.0. Is that correct?

If so, how do we convince Toyota to let us upgrade our 2019's to Apple CarPlay????

My understanding is that you need Entune 3.0. So the 2020 Primes should have Entune 3.0.

So, do you think the Entune 3.0 is the reason that Prime App for the Advanced trim is no longer supporting the remote climate control?

Possibly. Especially if the app was written for Entune 2.0.

Oddly enough, Entune 3.0 allows remote functionality on other Toyotas (like remote start, fuel level check).

I imagine those features will come eventually to entune 3.0 cars

Humm, that's strange. If it is true that 2020 PRIME Advanced has CarPlay but no Remote App, Maybe it's just a bug on new PRIME that has not been addressed by Toyota?

This is what happens when you have multiple versions of software that aren't OTA updatable ;)

I have a 2020 Prius Prime. I’ve only used Apple Car Play in the 3 days I’ve had the car.

If someone wants to tell me how to determine if Entune 2.0 or 3.0, or other questions just ask.

A family member is considering a 2019 Prius Prime due to the incentives (and no need for the 5th seat), but Apple Carplay would be useful (probably not worth losing out on the rebates on the older model though).

But seriously, is there any info out about whether or not Toyota will retrofit the Prius Prime with CarPlay, or if it's different hardware for 2020?

Android here but I like to see the progress of retro CarPlay and hope the same for Android Auto. I don't mind to retro mine with CarPlay if it is free of course :D

There are several active threads on this topic. In one of them, somebody posted the new-and-different part number for the 2020 infotainment pod/display module. So it's a different device.

I haven't seen any official info other than this parts listing- certainly not a press release. I'm of the opinion that Toyota has planned to use discount incentives to clear out the old ones, and feature incentives to sell the new ones.

Since it seems that you have to give up the remote apps in order to get Car Play in the 2020 model, that makes it easy for me. I couldn't care less about entertainment apps. Obviously different people have different priorities.

Thanks. I read online that the 2019 has Entune 16CY, but I haven't found which version the 2020 is using. I guess that's a strong indicator it will be a hard no.

Congrats on the new car. :)

Can you share some photos or videos of more of the functionality with CarPlay? Information online has been somewhat limited so far...

One question I have though, is can you stream audio from one device while making calls on another?

I carry two iPhones these days (personal and work), and in my PiP I often stream audio from my personal phone (either USB or over BT), while sometimes toggling between the work or personal phone for calls, and the Audio connection remains regardless. Does CarPlay coming into the picture change any of this functionality of making calls one phone but streaming from another?

In case it matters, I have an iPhone XR as my personal phone, and a crappy iPhone SE for my work phone. Both on iOS 12.3.1 (current release). (Yes, I have been thinking of looking into the dual sim (eSim) functionality on the XR so I only need one phone, but I also like having the personal/work separation....)

As a side note, I usually have the XR plugged on USB if I on work hours, as it causes Bluetooth interference if I am streaming audio on the XR and try to make a call on the SE. As soon as I plug in the XR, audio quality usually improves substantially. But this is my ‘14 PiP, I digress....

    Cheers. (y)

I think the only way to convince Toyota to do a retrofit is for them to hear from us! It obviously can be done, since they did it for the Camry’s. I wish there was a way to do an organized push - I imagine the virtually any Prius owner would support the capability to retrofit, even if they were n to personally interested.

In my experience today, that’s not possible. Once you connect a phone through usb that is set for CarPlay, the Bluetooth connection with any other phone disconnects.

You could use the good old fashioned Aux port, though! With CarPlay, you can listen to the audio on your phone, or any other non-Bluetooth source, like the radio.

So you turn off Bluetooth and have the calls come in through CarPlay?
