I'd still be inclined, to try removing them and do a few coats of satin-black Plasti-Dip, there's nothing to lose. It will be a different look though.

Do u sand them to get off clear coat and then put the plasti-dip on? I just worry in the process of removing them I break them, which I guess doesn’t matter if I replace them-think I can somehow plasti-dip them while still on my car?

You could spray them on the car, if you mask carefully. Plasti-Dip is forgiving too, can be peeled off later.

A shifter bezel I did (for a Civic). Before:

Again, it's a different look. And I'm not sure how it would stand up to UV. Just food for thought.

May try it... better than paying 160 for the parts

The parts (62505-47011 for the right and 62506-47011 for the left), shown in catalog Figure 75-03, Side Moulding, are also used on Prius cars built for sale in Japan, where the list price is ¥4710 each, or about $44 (U.S.) at today’s exchange rates. I’ve written before about exporting companies; even after the cost of EMS shipping from Japan to the U.S.—perhaps $30 or so—there would be a modest savings.
I think this, like the broken hyperlinks, is a defect introduced when the unofficial copies were made. Editions published by Toyota (more info) have the proper order: Components, Removal, Installation.

The steering wheel ‘pleather’ on my 2016 4touring is starting to peel. I think there’s a thread somewhere on this site about the issue.

I have the same thing happening on my 2016 4T, it just turned 3 yrs, but not at 36k yet. It did spend the first 3 yrs daily in sun. I agree it looks terrible.

I had the same idea to wrap it or plasti dip it with Carbon Pattern, do you have any idea which brand is best and easiest to apply. I am pretty sure I will not get any warranty help either. I will ask though in the next few days, but it seems quite expensive to replace and if it will happen again, not worth it.

Get the kind with air channels. There is no way to screw it up. I bought some on Amazon that is gunmetal.

Do you have to take off the plastic piece to wrap it-I’m worried I’ll break it trying to get it off?

No. There are plenty of videos on youtube that show you how to do the wrap. You curve it under the piece and trim it with an xacto blade.

Did we ever determine if the panels are a straight "pull-off" to remove? I have noticed some clouding on mine around the edges. Thinking that I might wrap them pearl white to match the body.

I took one off. I think it slides off toward the open door. It was pretty easy. I used a plastic spudger tool.

Not wanting to do the wrapping myself, I got a quote for prepping and wrapping the two side panels in gloss white for the same tint/wrap shop that did such a good job on my roof. The asked for $140 and agreed to $100 after I said that that was the limit I would spend. I'll probably get it done later this week.

I pulled my two little side panels off today with the intent of prepping them for vinyl wrapping. (I had planned on wrapping them gloss white). When they were removed, I was able to see what the extension of the white body color of my car would look like in that area. I did not like it. So I put them back on and went back into the contemplation stage.
BTW, the panels to pull off without much trouble. There are four or five fasteners that stay on the panels that go into holes in the body of the car. And there are four places that are double-stick taped. It will help to have a blade to cut the thick tape when you are pulling the panels off of the car. It was easiest to pull from the pointy end forward toward the back door.

My 2016 did that this year, showed it to the dealer, car was at 70,000, they contacted Toyota and Toyota paid to replace both sides. I was way over warranty, but sometimes Toyota can be good people, as well as building a great car.

OK. I looked into wrapping these defective panels, but that was going to be pricy. And the wrap would show the underlying faults of the surface. And the only color that I thought would look good was the existing black. So, no.
Then considered the cheaper option to Plasti-dip or paint the panels, but many of the same issues as the vinyl wrap choice would still exist. So, no.
I turned to eBay. I purchased replacement panels from two separate sellers on eBay. One of them was new - one was described as "used". It's funny that the "used" panel cost more than the "new" one.
They both arrived in great shape, with all of the "pins" attached and are ready to install.
Overall I spent $105.00 for both - including price, tax, and shipping. Actually a little cheaper than the vinyl wrap quote I had negotiated.
I see that Toyota created a new part number as a replacement for the originals (my two are the new part number) so my hope is that these parts have a more durable finish.
