Just hit a 3,6K estimate to fix these errors on my nice Prius '08 with 230K.
It's highly reputable shop so they don't deal with aftermarket, their cat price from dealer 2,2K (?).
And for Misfire they think need at least new plugs.

Anybody can share their experience using 200$ cats from ebay? I definitely don't need this last 10 years. Couple of years max.

Will appreciate any hints. The best part that I'm California.

    Tx all

The walk into the Dealer price for an OEM cat should be around $1300+ without install.

Ebay and others will not ship third party cats into CA. Smog tech also might not pass the visual test.

I guess you must have the oem cat under which is why we see so many reports of stolen cats off g2's on this site.
You will fail test with aftermarket cat.

California strictest smog in the country.

    What dealership? Folsom Toyota?
Go to this website and look up part 17410-21500.

1741021500 - Toyota Catalytic Converter (Front). Pipe, Exhaust. Engine, System, Intake | Roseville Toyota, Roseville CA

It’s 1650.03 internet price at Roseville Toyota and you can choose pickup at counter and not pay shipping. List isn’t even 2200 for crying out load. It’s 2148.55 plus tax.
And keep the old one. You can sell it for 300-350.

I'd fix the misfire and see if the cat rejuvenates itself, if you have time to inspection.. As an advanced topic there is a wet chemistry way to take off some of the cat contminants (Zinc/phosporous from the lube oil leakage) but that assume you got lots of DIY energy and resources and not enough money.

I wonder if I could just dunk the cats in a bucket of citric acid overnight then a quick dunk (60 minutes) in Oxalic acid to finish off? They were pumping a solution thru.

Thanks guys (and girls?) for all info. I will check all plans. Dealer was in LA area, I don't want to give any names just for the case. But I have a part # now so I will check around. Misfire estimate was only for replace plugs, so I it can be separated, originally was single 420 code, without misfire, so I assume fixing misfire won't help.

I don't think I able to do any chemo procedures as well, so will check all leads on Monday.
I have time till September for smog.

    Best

I add 1 Qrt oil each 3000 miles, so I think this could make any Cat bad faster. Just another factor to estimate how feasible this repair is.

In addition to what @SFO has said, I believe there is a thread here on Prius Chat the guy actually did it, I am thinking it worked.

I am thinking he had to take the cat off the Pirus, which may involve some difficult cutting. Then he put it in a bucket of solution, and dired and put back on.

I see if I can find the thread but no promises no hints, except you can look for my name as I was following his work.

If a new cat is the only solution have it shipped to a friend or family in another state and then to you. Find one you can install yourself.
