Yes, the split bus panels seem somewhat common around here.

As an aside, when we first moved in here, the dryer came with the house (found out there was a good reason, they had added a closet to the laundry room and there was no way to get the dryer out unless the closet came out).

Not too long after moving in, it started squealing. I managed to get the front off and found that yes, it was the belt tensioner.

Fairly cheap part and not tough to replace.

A year or so later, it was the heating element (?), it's a high power electrical thing that plugs into the side of the vent at the back of the dryer. Again, not so tough....but....I did not get the electrical connection tight enough (wire nuts) and it ended up melting the wire nut and smoking. Lucky there was no fire.

Not to be deterred, I tried it again and made sure I got the wires connected nice and snug. That dryer lasted several more years....then we had to take out the closet :D

Well, for a change, the day is dawning bright and sunny here in the Pacific Northwest with a predicted high of 84. Taking the hounds for a walk and then hope to spend the day lazing about and avoiding PriusChat :p

when we needed to work on our dryer, we found out the builder (architect?) had made the opening too small, and had lifted the dryer over the washer to get it in.
out came the sawzall, new doors ordered and installed, sheetrock, trim and paint. fun project, but it should not have been necessary.

EVERY panel made to handle 240 V service is a "split bus" design.
OK.....maybe not EVERY one but certainly most.

no, when you slid either machine over to the wall, it only left about a 24" opening, iirc. but there was enough wall in front to take a few inches from either side, so now you can pull one out with the other pushed over.

It's not possible to read 'background' sections of Whirlpool website and not get a little moist in the eyes. They sound like a bunch of dang Saints.

Electrolux is big and Swedish :).

Maybe pair it with any IKEA furniture you have and you’ll be all scandnavianized;).

    A winning combo for some(y).

split bus service panel, very common in the late 50's though the early 80's
just one of the many ways split bus panels were wired to code during that period.

I still remember the first time I was fooled by the "switch controlling half the outlet"
The other one is the when the switch on the lamp is turned off ..... possibly even more embarrassing?
