    maintenance prius prime cost 20 dollars less per tire
    prius prime oil change will only be once a year roughly 30 dollars vs rav4 hybrid has to be every 10,000 miles or every year
    brake pads are about 30 dollars in the prius prime and would have to be replaced less than rav4 hybrid due to engine braking

    brakes in both cars would be similar because they both use a motor generator to slow the car and regenerate electricity.
    both cars oils changes are 10k or one year.

    but i meant purchase pricing. there are some hefty rebates on prime in some area's, and a $4,500. tax credit if you qualify

    Rav4 hybrid is 170 dollars more and doesn't include 4500 tax rebate. I don't pay taxes and someone else buys the car so it doesn't matter since my parents are more than happy to buy a rav4 hybrid

    Uhmmm... I’m not sure which post you’re replying to, but the service interval on the Prime is 5000 miles, officially.

    Once ours’ drive train is off warranty though, I doubt I’ll do oil changes more often than 10K though, since I hardly use the engine...

    Another big question. Have you test driven them? Some like the high, upright suv seating position, others like sitting lower with that hug the road feeling. Since both would probably serve you well, how you feel when driving them matters.

    I would get the Rav IV and while you're in school, take mechanic courses. Lots of them. And work in garages over the summers. The reason that some of those old Fords are still kicking around is not only b/c their much simpler design, as previously mentioned, but also that people knew how to do proper maintenence themselves. These newer modern cars are much more complex and at some point, a maintenance repair is going to happen that is valued more than the car itself. So if you're serious about keeping this car for at least two decades and depreciation / costs are part of your reasoning, you should have the skills of a decent mechanic.

    oil change is 10k. 5k service is tire rotation.

    are you getting free oil changes every 5k?

    Since when? I thought all Primes and Gen 4s are 1 year/10,000 mile oil change (the service might be 6 months/5,000 but the OCI is 1 year/10,000)

    Our 2019 has the one year / 10k miles oil change interval and I bet it isn’t alone(y).

    Ill get my car supposedly in June of 2020. I seriously hope there is a plug in rav4 and not trash mpg.
