So what are your thoughts on how often it comes on?

have to wonder if someone did some modification of the circuit to keep it full.
does it wear down the 12v overnight?

i guess it must stop after a certain amount of time. put a meter on the jump point and watch the voltage drop when it pumps

According to the video, it's coming on about every :50secs which is way too frequent. I bought a used 06 Camry Hybrid that did the same thing but didn't notice the frequency during the test drive/inspection. While looking under the hood, I even explained to the salesman, who was on his very first day, what the sound was. LOL

Well the laugh would soon be on me as after I got it home and began parking it in a quiet garage, I noticed it seem to be on everytime I walked in there. The accumulator was losing pressure and needed continual priming. Out of warranty with no recall at the time and looking at a very expensive repair on a just purchased vehicle, I was feeling very frustrated and soon traded it in. Toyota would issue a recall campaign a few months later. <grrr>

    GOOD LUCK!

I think the frequency of the noise is just too much.
This is a sign your accumulator is way southwards already.
Its struggling to keep up with the brake fluid pressures.

    I agree

Honestly with this and the blowing head gaskets I have no idea why anyone would buy one of these cars. When major systems fail with regularity on a car...I relegate that car to the category of “too risky to own” and move on to something more reliable

Pretty insane that Toyota failed to upgrade the accumulator from way back in 2006 or earlier...to at least 2011. If not later. I’m guessing 2012’s and up will begin getting failures soon

I’ll hang onto my second gen as I got lucky and had the accumulator go just before the December 2017 deadline and got a free replacement

But I’ll probably never buy another Prius

You can use a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and hybrid assisstant app to monitor 12v battery of car when it's off... Question is will accumulator draw at least a 1/10 of a volt when it's running so you can track it?

Bluetooth obd2 won’t receive power when car is off, apps won’t connect to OBD2

The inverter itself is a ticking time bomb also, it’s just the matter of time and smashing the accelerator. Add that to the list.

Not True... I've seen my Veepeak OBD2 transmit 12v battery data all night long once and the car was turned off and locked with no FOB nearby. Try it sometime...

Correct me if I am wrong but service won't do any repairs or replacements of the brake booster/accumulator unless you are getting specific dashboard warning lights (ABS, etc).

Maybe that as a general rule but with my 2009 they replaced it with no warning lights or codes thrown

I took it in because the accumulator was running like every 10 seconds

they heard it and simply by what they heard they knew it had to be replaced and they replaced it under the extended warranty

I have an 06 with 170,000 miles. My brake accumulator has started to cycle on every 6 seconds. The sound lasts for 3 seconds each time. Just double checking that this MUST be fixed and there is no warranty covering it. And is this a sign that the brakes will totally fail soon if this isn't attended to?

There's the physical reality of cars and then there's the metaphysical reality of cars... As a teenager in an auto shop I was always baffled how people who were never late for work would drop their car off at our shop for repairs and the car would have several problems and even just one of those problems would make it impossible for the car to run and yet by willpower alone they somehow got that car going everyday and were never late or missed work. Then we'd call them and tell them cost of repair is more than value of the car. This happened often!

In your case I bet if we did a double blind test we could demonstrate how your previous experience with a bad accumulator, predisposes you to having the exact same problem with your newer Prius in the same way that @SLPTWP recently posted on here the near exact same error codes that she posted in her previous Prius two years ago...

From a metaphysical perspective, humans have complex electrical fields that effect their surroundings and while cars are obviously much more simple and much more short lived than humans. I can't get over the fact that humans love their cars and have strange relationships that can't be explained by the simple physical sciences...

I mean we all have friends who have constant problems with their electronics working properly... We also have friends that no matter what car they own next they always have problems... We also all know people that are forever driving around old junk cars that are worth almost nothing and about to break down, yet they don't ever have much problem and when they do it's always on a weekend when they have spare time to deal with it. If you disagree with this line of questioning, no need to reply. I've been attacked all my life for pointing this obvious stuff out. I'm so sick of that kind of shallow mindedness. But if you need a fresh perspective on your problem, then there you go!

All this is an around about way of asking, why not ignore the problem until you have more trouble codes and more reason to spend money on it? Just because it's running often doesn't mean it's going to fail, at least yet. There's lots of redundancy in the brake system and soon as you have symptoms beyond just the accumulator then it'd be wise to do something, but why not ignore it for now? It seems like you're a bit obsessed?

I think I just posted a few posts up about how my 2009 accumulator went and there were no codes thrown

The accumulator just began to come on more and more often until it was almost continuous

I’m sitting in my 2009 right now and it’s been like 5 min since the new accumulator came on

On my 2011 the frequency has increased rapidly

It was every 60 seconds a few weeks ago

Now it is every 34 seconds

I think you are wrong and I don’t want a 4500 dollar bill with this car

I plan to replace it with a non hybrid

    Something reliable

    Lol...

The physical reality is that Prius are some of the most reliable vehicles on the road and they cost half as much to put 200K on them compared any other similar priced car...

The metaphysical reality is that you never wanted a Prius and you unconsciously found an energetic hook to get out of owning a Prius and it work so well the first time, despite your family wanting a Prius again, you're gonna force 'em out of it again this time.

Us humans have far greater abilities than we realize, but sometime if we want something bad enough, we find a way!

So congratulations... Glad we could help you resolve your problem. :)
