Preventative HV battery cell/module shuffling?

    Hi All, my 2011 Prius has roughly 140k miles on it and now that I have recently completed the full EGR/IM cleaning, PCV, OCC etc. I want to turn my attention to preserving the HV battery as well as I can. I’m cobbling together the components of the Prolong system (have the charger so far) and will be buying/installing the harness soon. So, more to the point, obviously I plan on cleaning the HV fan while I’m installing the harness, but I got to wondering if there was anything else I should do while I have everything torn apart to the degree required for this job?

    I believe it’s consistently the cells that make up traction battery temp 2 that run the hottest, and as I understand TB2 is the middle portion of the pack. So I was wondering if it might be worthwhile to shuffle up the battery pack a bit and reorder the cells, so that the cells that make up TB2 get split up are now on the outermost positions of the pack and move the outer halves of TB1 and TB3 to the middle of the pack?

    In my car, temp2 always reads 3-7º warmer than 1 and 3 (which are within ±0.1º from each other) while running. Guess what, proverbial blocks 1 and 3 are surrounded by air on one side and block 2 on the other, while block 2 is surrounded by blocks 1 and 3. It's always warmer.

    Feel free to castle your battery modules, there's no harm in doing that… although I'm not quite sure if there's any benefit. Balanced charging, on the other hand, will be hugely beneficial.

    I’d just balance the pack and not get too creative;).

    Why disturb connections if there ain’t anything wrong:cool:.

    But I’m the type if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it:).

    I've idly thought along the same lines. It can't hurt to "shuffle the deck"? And in the process clean all the bus bars and nuts.

    Must resist...

    And don't get your hopes up too high.
    If modules are actually going bad, there is NOTHING you can do to reverse that process.
    Postpone their ultimate demise.......maybe but probably not much.

    Those “Just drive it” folks have been gone for too long, I’m beginning to miss that generic comment.
