    Hi all:
I was just curious. I regularly check the site as I love to post and snoop around. I have not seen many gen 4 2019+ Prius owner reviews. I also have not seen many in the "new owner" hang out section either with new photos of people's vehicles.

Is it a sign that less are on the prius chat forum or less buying the gen 4 prius?

Just curious to hear your thoughts...

Prius sales have been down for a few years now, no secret there- low fuel prices.

    Beat me to it.

The Prius is a world car, but sales in the US have been pretty bleak since 2016 particularly in the US where gas in many states is hovering close to $2
    ($2.12 locally, this morning)
Also, there are several other very credible hybrids that do not feature sheet metal that's quite as..........ah.........."interesting."
Insight, Niro, Ioniq, HyCam, even Chevy's Malibu all come in hybrid flavors.....and according to CR the most fuel efficient of these is a Honda ( ) and it actually looks like.........a Honda!
The Most Fuel-Efficient Cars - Consumer Reports

EVangelists and other activists are leaving these digs to fight new battles in new forums, and I'm seeing a marked decrease in traffic in this once bustling town.
If you're curious about real-world reviews, there are some here, as you have no doubt discovered, but you're going to have to do market research out in the.....market.

    Good Luck!
Maybe YOU can buck the trend and give us a long term owner's report on a G4!!!

yep, so I suppose us American's have short-term memories, huh? I have to imagine that gas prices will go up once again.

Inevitably they will, but you might have time to wear out a car or two before that happens. Now that the USA can supply all of its own petroleum, things aren’t like they used to be. There will still be price bubbles and swings but there are some different factors feeding it now and not a lot of history to watch how it all works.

This was on my mind when we bought ours- we set out to buy a nice subcompact car, and it happened to be a hybrid. So I had to ask: How long is it going to take to break even on all the extra costs of buying this technological wonder? Answer: A very long time. (never is pretty long, right?) But we still went for it on the strength of it being a nicer car.

    Sketch:

24,000 miles per year estimated driving demand
    10 year expected vehicle ownership

240,000 miles of service expected in our time of ownership

    At 51MPG that’s 4700 gallons of fuel… at today’s local price $13,200
    At 41MPG that’s 5850 gallons of fuel… at today’s local price $16,400

Our Prius cost more than $3200 greater than our 2nd choice…

...in other words 10 years of greater-than-average usage is still not enough to make it pay for its own price premium.

Try the math for your situation.

^ It was still a good buy!

The Priussy is the most reliable of Toyotas according to the wags - AND they get pretty good gas mileage.
Since they're in a diminutive price category, the hybrid premium on these cars is pretty small.

Yep. It would likely be in the same ballpark. My wife has a 2013 Prius with almost 100k miles. It has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever been associated with. It's not just the MPGs it is also lack of other expenses compared to my 2016 Honda crv. Such as, brakes, tires and other wear & tear items seem to wear-down slowly compared to traditional, non-hybrid cars, brakes being the biggest cost save. My wife is still on original brakes and only one new set of tires. Meanwhile, still getting 50 + mpgs in Summer, high 40s in Minnesota winters. It's a cool car, no doubt.

eventually gas costs go up - & when it happens, why wouldn't someone just buy a gently used plugin w/30 or more miles ev range (some now have >300k miles, same battery w/little capacity loss) or gently used quick charging ev w/200+ miles of range (also 300k mile longevity batteries, showing <10% capacity loss). Each year you wait for that gas crash, the options continue to get greater & greater in the EV - PHEV world. Enjoy your Gen 4 in the meantime!

Agreed but I've also notice over the years here that there is a decrease in traffic during the peak summer vacation months.

I've seen one or two 2019 Prius, could tell by the tail light redesign, and rear wiper, so definitely not Primes.

The majority of vehcles you see rolling buy here are CUV's though, a real "sea change" in the last decade.

I have seen just a couple, but on dealership lot. Not on the road, yet.

They are not priced terribly well from Toyota incentives either. Rates are not great, lease is not competitive either at the moment, at least in MN.

I'm particularly interested in what people think of the new AWD-e model. I think I saw a thread or two around here a while back...but certainly not a lot of activity at all. However, I did actually see an AWD-e mode out in the wild...in the work parking lot no less! (y)

Being from MN, the AWD-e would be the model I would be most interested in.

yes, indeed. I have seen reviews online. Looks like a very interesting product. Again, I think the pricing isn't great for finance or lease.

I agree...however, I wouldn't consider one until the AWD-E's hit the used market. However, I bet they will be hard to find used.

with peeps in snowy areas liking the extra ground clearance, & so many wanting to be part of the SUV craze, & the AWD rav4 availability? & cheep gas? & the rav being more roomy than a sedan (which sales show small/midsize sedans are somewhat passé) .... one might guess the Rav would be a likely alternative over the awd-e prius.

I would prefer the extra ground clearance of the rav 4, but i really dislike the tablet screen in it. I also prefer the styling and interior of the honda crv, if they bring a hybrid I will buy that.

because what? I think the tablet is ugly and I don't particularly like the trend of sticking an ipad like device on the dash. It looks and feels flimsy.

    The AWD's don't have a spare. :(

Prius options in Canada for 2019 leave me near-completely disinterested: I want a spare, and I don't want a sunroof. I'd also like 3 door touch to unlock/lock, if it's not too much.

That's not possible. The closest I can get is the base model, but it doesn't have the 3 door touch.

And the interiors on all levels make me nauseous: piano gloss-black, vestigial amounts of gloss-white, that effing Darth Vader iPad in the dash, and on and on.

oh - i see. Yea that seems to be the trend ... although the rav screen doesn't seem to be as big as the Prime's screen.
After having the stadium size screens in both our X & S ...

all the others seem a bit puny. It was nice using the entire upper ½ of the display as a 160° rear view mirror. No headrests, passenger heads, pillars etc blocking the back view. Had to do a mod on our current car in order to enjoy the constant rear view.
