    Hi All,

It looks like the weather stripping that rests against the driver/passenger front window on my 8 y/o prius with 90k miles on it is peeling away it creates the seal between the bottom of the window and the door.

Anyone have to replace this yet?

    Thanks!

Is that the rubber that rests against the glass (the part I need), or is that the plastic trim (the part I do not need)?

Yes it is the rubber part that rests against the glass, and trim, which I need. But you need to do your own homework. I asked the dealer.

I replaced mine today. It took about two minutes. Very easy. Just follow the directions in the ebay link I posted above.

So those two door trim pieces just pop off? I'll have to try this on my own. I mentioned it to the dealer last maintenance and they offered to do it for $329!! (Of course they want $70 for a cabin filter too haha).

I'll try and upload the quote later if I can, they also had a different name for it than "sweep", something like "scraper" but that doesn't sound quite right.I wouldn't even mind to replace that trim because mine looks like wreck from sun exposure.

You should have said “also sign me up for a $50 driver floor mat check.”

grantb3, I will do it for half that! LOL! I'd do it for nothing, if you want to drive to Texas.

That is criminal. Dealers should be called on the carpet for that. Yes I inderstand they can try to justify that kind of price. But that is just trying to take advantage of someone who is ignorant of the facts.

Funnily enough, I've had my floor mats disconnected since day 1 so I can vacuum better. On ever dealer service thing it mentions checking the floor mats and no one has ever re-hooked it. Also they never fill my wiper fluid either. :(

Here are the instructions from that eBay link. I haven't done it yet. Mine might be more fun since most of my existing window sweep/scraper is long gone, but we'll see.

Holy cow this stealership you went charges $300 per hour labor or something?

Im at Fremont Toyota today to finish up my 75,000 miles pre-paid maintenance and asked for a 4wheel alignment, advisor told me $99 (wow, independence shop pricing:rolleyes:), I gladly accepted it because 18 years ago San Francisco Honda was already charging $89.99. Alignment was usually a 20 mins job for me but I don’t have an alignment rack with laser equipment to DIY LOL

If I wanted to follow my dealer's recommendations, I would be replacing my struts and shocks "for comfort" at something around $1k. Oh and they'd throw in an alignment for only $149. :(

Finally got around to changing my driver's side window scraper/sweeps. I bought the parts for about $70 incl shipping off eBay. There were lower prices, but out of stock. As others have said it's not hard and I would say slightly more difficult that changing your wipers. :)

First thing to know is that the whole part on the door, the black plastic and rubbery scraper are all one thing. So you replace all that in one go and it's literally a couple of easy clips and a couple of harder ones. The process is non-destructive really, even the hard clips aren't destroyed. For an idea, stand in the center of the door and grab the piece and pull up. There are no clips of substance over 90% of the scraper so you can pull up an air gap of 1/4" without much effort, and then push it back on.

More or less all you have to do is work or pull the old on off and push the new one down/on. I included a few pics for reference.

$329 for that???!!! It takes about two minutes. One minute to rip out the old one and one minute to insert the new one and make sure it's snapped down properly. If the felt has come off and slimed the window with black goo, then it'll take a little longer to clean up the mess. I've replaced both fronts on my wife's '07. I think I paid 40-something dollars for new OEM parts from a nearby hybrid specialist.

I replaced all the ones in my 2010 a couple years ago, all 4 doors were done for about $100. Literally 2 minute job
