Your coolant may live there, but that doesn't mean it's how the thermostat was designed. That page is from the repair manual, but this digression into arguing semantics isn't helpful with my current dilemma, or at all.

I will be returned to my vehicle in less than 2 hours, and there's an unknown amount of water in the ICE coolant system. Forgetting the DTC for now, what other steps can I take, aside from drain/refill/bleed? I don't know of any way to empty all of the liquid.

I expect to be met with resistance, and as clear as it is to me that no one else should be touching my car, it's nonsensical to those I am surrounded by. Everything I need to finish the job is in my car, and I'll be picking up a Lisle Funnel before I arrive to save on time. If there is anything else that might be helpful, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I've not yet tried it on a Prius but that Lisle locking funnel was the bees knees for bleeding air out of my old Outback.

I found it to be helpful, certainly seemed a lot easier compared to experiences I've read about and tutorials I've seen on bleeding the ICE coolant system. I drained a murky mix of the residual red coolant, pink coolant and water, then refilled, bled accordingly, then topped it off when I got up this morning. The DTC P1118? He hadn't reconnected the harness to the sensor. o_O
