Does anyone know how to get an update for the GPS system. My Prime Advanced was purchased in January of 2017 so the data is almost 3 years old.

Officially (I think) you purchase updates (Mini SD Card) from your Toyota Part Department for several
hundreds of dollars. Unofficially there are copies sold on eBay. Buyer beware as per usual on that.
Generally the consensus is it's a waste of money to update as the changes are minor unless
you are in a brand new or very recently added area.
Personally I just would get a Garmin Nuvi at less than the cost of a single Toyota update and
they come with free map updates for the life of the device. The Gamin routes better on other than
main roads better than the Toyota does IMO.

Don't waste $$ to update the built in GPS.

Best if Toyota is willing to retro our Prime with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and problem solved

Trouble with CarPlay is they require Cellular service which the native Nav does not. Heck it will use Dead Reckoning if it looses GPS by counting wheel revolutions if you want to navigate on an underground parking garage. :)

Or you enter an area without cellular service or weak cellular service.

(I asked how Tesla navs would work in Banff National Park and Jasper National Park outside of the town centres and didn’t get a response from the rep in store)

So many people, especially those living in the eastern 2/3rds of the U.S., keep forgetting how much 'white space' remains elsewhere on the mobile service coverage maps.

(BTW, I plan to be visiting this gorgeous area again next month.)

I live in an area of the eastern US where there are big pockets of nothing. Just head over a hill and poof! your cell phone is worthless

You can download Google maps pieces to your phone or tablet, and use that without cell service. I do this frequently before heading off into the wilds, or even download a whole country if I am traveling and won't have cell service (i.e. Ireland).

I would not hold your breath for this. Toyota has zero incentive to upgrade your existing car, and every incentive not to (i.e. you might replace the car with a newer one that has that feature).

Your Toyota dealer will charge you roughly ~$350 OTD for this GPS update.
