It would take a draconian crack-down to rein in the scofflaws. Around here pretty much nobody:

    1. Signals (properly, consistantly).
    2. Comes to a full stop at stop signs and when turning right at a red traffic light.
    3. Stays under the speed limit (Yeah I know, even contemplating that invokes consternation, reservations).
    4. Follows at a safe distance.

    Why, I wonder?
Because educated people display more empathy?
I know how you feel....only I'd probably concentrate more on social activities.

Lots of different kind of mentors out there.

Lack of education is an assumption on your part. For all you know, the guy might have two PhDs.

I work with a lot of highly educated people with Ivy league degrees, this type of behavior is beneath them.

Still, I wouldn't conflate college degrees and demeanor.

There's the solution - everybody gets an Ivy League degree and all bad behavior is eliminated. Simple.

I'm not debating anything. Just commenting on the obvious correlation.

Edit - on second thought, this might not be that simple. Ted Kaczynski (the Unabomber) had a degree from Harvard and advanced degrees from Michigan and was on the Cal Berkeley Faculty. So education may not be a reliable method to improve behavior.

I guess I just value etiquette and courtesy. I hold doors open for people, I share the road, if I have my cart of groceries and I see someone behind me with just one item I let them go ahead...stuff like that matters.

I think the others on this forum do as well. I can only control me, and if others are not courteous and exhibit good etiquette, I can either get upset or just ignore/avoid them. I choose the latter. In the case of an annoying tailgater on a two lane road, once they are past me the problem is resolved.

I also try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Everybody has a bad day, hour or minute every once in a while. As an example in this case, the other driver could have accidently run over his dog in the driveway just before he encountered you. You never know.

I agree, but usually the stuff I post on here is contemptible behavior from deplorables. These aren't people just slipping up, these are people that present their selves on the road as aggressors and endanger people around them. A guy wants to roast tires in some parking lot have at it. You want to ride my bumper and then roast the tires when I let you pass well imo that makes that person a mook and I just chuckle at these people.

Maybe briefly when it happens but for the most part I use the experiences as inspiration to create content on this site in hopes of meeting like minded people that encounter mooks and chuckle. So far I haven't found that to be the case.
