Buying into 200 000 mile club?!

If it were me I'd stay well clear. The Prius is a great and dependable car, but with that sort of mileage all bets are off. My guess is that the car has been well maintained to make it that far, but it is at the point where something will go wrong with it sooner rather than later.

 

Idk about price in Australian $. But Prius will easily go 500k. Cab companies all over the world will tell you the same thing. I have 220k on mine and I beat the snot out of it. Plus pull sleds and 4 wheelers with it.

 

I have a 2005 Prius with 355K generally trouble-free Miles. I bought it used at 73K Miles at 11000 USD back in 2009.

Even with all that good experience, I would not buy one with 214K miles at equivalent of 5200 USD.

Too many unknowns.

 

I’m pretty sure she passed. Thread is over 6 years old and she hasn’t been on in over 6 years.

 

I bought in just for fun. Bought at 277,999 miles now just before 280,000 needed to fix the misfire but so far so good. Ex taxi, unknown history but £1070 and a good (so far) hybrid battery.
I've changed injectors, maf, coils, inverter coolent pump and the oil and filter. I also changed and refurbished the headlight leveling system.
I also changed front disks and pads as they were an mot failure and the 12v battery as a precaution.
I'm in progress of changing the water pump, pully, belt and thermostat although they didn't really need doing but thought I would as preventative not knowing the history. I've used blue print parts for mechanicals and denso electrical (after some problems with non-branded parts) apart from the inverter pump that is genuine Toyota.
Techstream is well worth the ebay price, makes diagnosis of faults easier and helps with maintenance. Better than the Bluetooth obd2 readers as more functionality.

 

For a Project car?

Yeah.....you can buy your way into the club, but it's only smart if you have tools, a desire to shove dirt under your fingernails, and backup transport.
Also.....if you're driving in remote areas, remember that breakdowns can be more than a mere inconvenience - but any proper Aussie already knows that.

Having said all of that, I'd offer 6 and see where it goes.
I'd ask what the conversion rate is but it really doesn't matter.
We use dollars, real gallons, miles per hour, and we drive on the right (right) side of the road with the steering wheel on the right (left) side of the car - and I paid $1.96 US dollars for a US gallon of gas the last time I filled up.

So.....
The AUD to USD conversion is really pointless, isn't it????
