Hey, does anyone know the outer diameter of the exhaust pipe that connects to the catalytic converter? I am replacing it with one from another Prius that was cut off and need to buy a sealing sleeve to connect the two cut pipes back together. I just need to know what size to buy.

What were the circumstances of catalytic converter being cut off of other vehicle? We get alot of people on here getting their Catalytic converter stolen and if this is how yours was acquired you aren't going to be getting much help from us. Obviously this replacement isn't in your possession, otherwise you'd just measure it. As in your activities are suspicious and we're more interested in preventing theft than enabling it.

Are you kidding me?? Lol. Yes, I can go out and grab my calipers, jack up my car, and measure it, but I live in an apartment and it would be a pain, so I though I would ask. I'm driving over to Oregon this weekend to pull one out of a wrecking yard and wanted to buy everything before making the trip and working on the car at my parents house. That way I could be back with the car running for the new week. You guys are seriously too paranoid.... Even if I was someone doing something shady, not getting answers from you guys wouldn't stop theft of a catalytic converter.... So, I guess if somehow you feel like you're saving the world by not helping me out, by all means, go ahead. I got a check engine light and replaced both O2 sensors and now know the cat is most likely plugged up at 180,000 miles.

Btw, just wanted to add. To cut a catalytic converter off of a car, you don't need to know what size the pipe is... a sawsall, chain cutter, grinder or any other methods of cutting pipe does not require knowing the pipe diameter to cut it off. Lol

Apologies, it's been a pretty crazy scene for people in California of late... Pretty cool you got one out of a wrecking yard. Long ways to drive for it, but most assume they're impossible to get used. So if it works out, props to you!

Let us know how we can help further... Or maybe we've already helped enough? :)

I mean I got calipers and could climb under my car for you, but... You know, opinions on social media? They're way more important than any kind of effort in real life...

No worries, but I'm still trying to find out what the outer diameter is so I can buy a slip joint of some sort to take with me. I just need to be able to connect the used one to my stock system after I cut mine off, anyone know the size? I have the stuff to check my exhaust in my storage unit, but it's a bit if a drive for me and I just moved, so everything is a mess and completely unorganized. It's strange that I can't find the answer, or find someone who knows on a car this old.... I come from dsm's and this kind of info is passed around to death.

I'm sure you'll figure that out once you get the new part... It's premature to figure that part out.... Once you have the work in front of you, just go grab the right size pipe off your shop's pipe rack and weld 'er up... Lol...

Actually, we aren't so fortunate as that as DIY peole are we? Don't worry about it... You'll figure it out on your way home....

Which is another way of saying Prius chat ain't ever gonna be good for pipe diameter numbers...

Or also as I'm learning tonight on Insight Central, there's plenty of people with an opinion about changing the belt, but there's nobody who explains it and I currently can't figure out how to unbolt the belt tensioner before I untension via the the belt tensioner screw / not a Honda guy....

I guess I gonna assume it's the bolt that hold the tensioner pulley in place, that also when completely tightened holds the tensioner screw in place?

Just a bummer because it's a small town with hardly anything as far as parts stores (rural oregon for ya). So I guess I'll probably end up leaving the car at my parents house for a week while I return to Boise and get the piece I need.

I'm driving over to Oregon this weekend to pull one out of a wrecking yard

This is interesting, I've been to hundreds of salvage yards and not a single one will sell catalytic converters to individual customers.

If you do happen to get lucky enough to actually find a complete assembly, why wouldn't you just unbolt it from the exhaust manifold and then unbolt it at the joint in front of the rear axle? Why even worry about cutting and rejoining it?

If you do cut it, then why don't you just go to ANY exhaust shop and have them expand the end of the pipe for 10 bucks? I bought an aftermarket cat assembly for $130 from ebay (actually 4 of them) and they already had the end expanded. Why waste time driving to another state and screwing around at a salvage yard if you can have one (maybe not Toyo quality, but good enough and new) delivered to your door for $130?

Well...... I guess I'm asking too much of you guys.... maybe I have to take a trip to oregon anyway? Maybe I can't work on my car where I live? Maybe my dad knows a guy at the salvage yard and I'm getting it for free? Maybe all I asked was what f**king size the exhaust diameter is so I can simply buy a small piece to join the two pipes together? Lol. Jesus. I used to wonder where the Prius stereotypes come from...

Why would you cut it off rather than just unbolt it?

But you got admit that @TMR-JWAP has a great point about unbolting the whole section from both ends... That's going to be way less hassle. Unless of course it's already been cut, which you don't specificy. Seriously dude, we're just trying to be helpful, or at least most of us are.

Hold up a second boss and read my second paragraph. It’s tremendously easier to unbolt something than to I and chop and try to put it back together. And your wasting your time if you just plan to cut out the lower cat and replace it. You do know there two cats right? An upper and a lower?

I'm guessing the wrecker already pulled it and that's why it's chopped....

Hey guys, what size is the stock exhaust? It's really that simple. Why do I have to explain where I plan on getting another cat, or how far I'm driving, or how I'm taking it off or putting it on, or how much I pay, or whether I do the work during the day or night? Seriously, all I asked is the size of the stock exhaust, bunch of drama queens in here.

I'll just answer the question as to why I'm doing it the way I am. The guy already has one that was unbolted and then cut (just like the magnaflow replacement) I'm using a chain cutter and sleeve method which is almost just as easy as unbolting from the rear of the car. I've asked the guy to simply measure the outer diameter several times, but he's a flake and never responds. I never thought asking a simple question about the diameter of a pipe would be such a task.... damn. I really don't know why everyone needs specifics just to get a simple question answered. Either you know, or you don't, why all the other questions about why I'm doing what I'm doing? I need a catalytic converter replaced, no one needs to "help" me out in any other way besides answering the question I needed an answer to. I've already figured out how I'm replacing it, I don't need help in that department.

If you speak to him the same way you speak to us, I'm surprised he hasn't told you to piss off and find your own cat. Maybe he'll do that after you get there.

Found these in the garage, but couldn't find my calipers. Good luck with your endeavors.

My wife and I are laughing our asses off at the fact that you actually took the time to go out in your garage and take a picture just to make sure I knew you could easily measure it, but choose not to just because you're butthurt about how I treated you. Lol. Snowflake much? I didn't know I was being so rude to you guys. I thought I was just asking a pretty simple question that maybe someone could answer, not get interrogated as to why I'm doing what I'm doing, how, where, and when, lol. You guys were claiming to "help" where help wasn't needed. But I guess I didn't realize your "feelers" were going to get that hurt while explaining i just simply needed the exhaust size, not advice about everything else. I never asked where to buy a replacement, how to replace it, where to cut it, etc etc etc. I hope you feel like a badass by taking that pic though...lol
