How much are Toyota Dealers charging for a Prius Hybrid Battery

Was the $1,850 price the standard price, or did you negotiate it lower? Can you say which dealer it was because that's a good price, especially if you didn't have to use them for installation?

I was told by a couple of dealers that if you have an aftermarket battery core, then you wouldn't get credit for the $1,300 core charge. It seems that this wasn't an issue for you- did they ask any questions about your 2nd traction battery?

 

Raytheeagle, the first quote was over the phone and before I set foot in the dealership. The second quote (after the diagnosis) was also over the phone because I had dropped off the car and went back home. It may be that they knew I had nothing in writing and attempted to charge me a little more.

ericbecky, at the time I thought it was an awesome deal. I needed a running car and wasn't ready to spend $4k (at the time) for a new battery from the dealership. In the end I'd say it was an OK deal. At the current prices, I think getting a brand new battery is the best long term solution. A used but young battery would probably be OK too.

MelonPrius, a note in the invoice does say "Upon removal of the HV battery we can see that the HV battery was removed and rebuilt by a outside shop.". But I still received the core credit.

The first quote was $1950 battery + $650 labor. After diagnosis the quote became $1850 battery + $900 labor + $24 for something1 + $14 for something2. After questioning them about why is the price changing, they honored the first quote on labor but also let me have the $1850 price in the other quote and removed the other 2 items. I didn't negotiate it lower, I would have been OK with paying $1950 in the original quote.

 

Yes. They quoted the official 5 hours at $125/hr = $600 + $1625 + tax.

 

That 4 hours labor gains you 2 years of warranty. If they will sell you just a battery, it has a 1 year warranty. Dealer installed has a 3 year warranty.
Not all dealers will sell just the battery. Another option for DIY is the kit of new cells linked to in by signature. @2k1Toaster here has assenbled a very good alternative to a new Toyota battery.

 

While that’s the by the book response, reality is about 2 hours.

But I’m sure they do the battery around lunch time, so it all works out.

My local Toyota Service Director told me that won't accept my currently installed Doorman battery as core and want to charge me an extra $1350.....is this normal ? Dealer Service Mgr also said the NEW Toyota OEM battery they were installing only had an 1-year parts/labor warranty.....is this true ?

 

I thought it was one year warranty if you DIY, but three year if they do the install?? That might have changed though. Check with another dealership for starters. And Toyota USA to clinch it.

 

It is normal for them to not accept a Dorman battery. The warranty for dealer installed is 3 years. One of our experst here has helped inform some misguided dealers.

They may be able to get away with not accepting a Dorman. Have not personally experienced this yet.

They are wrong about the warranty. It is 3 years if they install it. You can contact Toyota Corporate if you want to confirm.

Dear may seller one to you for you to install yourself and that would technically have a 12 month warranty. But it is the same part that they install, just cost you less to do yourself.
