    Hi all,

Has there been any information at all about what new innovations might be coming for the 'gen 5' Hybrid Synergy Drive...and 'Gen 5' Prius? Any leaks? Technical documents...etc? If not, based on where we are in the cycle, when do we anticipate info on it?

Just thought some of the gurus here could chime in. (y)

Toyota hoped to have Silicon Carbide Power Transistors for the Inverter working for Gen 5, I have not heard anything lately.

I doubt that - home market isn't into plug-ins and that's the biggest PRIUS market. TOYOTA is still to introduce plug-ins to almost all markets.

true. i'm just going by hints and allegations :) they did say it would take a major paradigm shift to reinvigorate the product in n/a. i'm not sure what else they will be able to come up with.

If I was to make a guess - it would be to go more mainstream in style. But, unlike their other hybrids which are "add-ons" to other (not necessarily efficient) vehicles, it will still aim to reduce aerodynamics, fuel, emissions and possibly weight. Just a guess.

They're not really ECO focused like PRIUS (or PRIUS v) are. But no hatchback - which the home-market goes for. Here, only a small market, hatchbacks far out-sell sedans, UK too, and I think EU are more hatch focused (and tons of SUVs).

right. a crv type vehicle might do well, but how are you going to be eco focused when you leave the .24 cd prius shape

Still wondering what happened to that spyshot of a CUV Prius. Maybe that was the new RAV4 Hybrid?

Nothing new as far as I know.

Japan gets the new Corolla in all its forms. With 1.8L hybrid option in FWD or E-Four. The sedan and wagon there have the hatchback's shorter wheelbase, so are slightly smaller than the Prius. Toyota probably wouldn't lose much overall if the Prius became plug in only, and they can always make a home market hybrid from a PHEV model if need be.

Wasn't it speculated that was the new Rav4 back when released?

I guess I'm more interested in what form the next gen HSD drivetrain will be. Looks like absolutely no leaks or hints of that exist. Looks like we wait! (y)

Sounds like you have mistaken anticipation of the PHV model becoming default as a discontinuation.

There is nothing to indicate the HV model will not remain an option. In fact, the AWD model support that.

    maybe they'll drop the fwd

i don't really suspect anything, except a big change toyota hopes to excite the market with, to forstall a continued sales slide of the lift back.
