I can't even move the 2005 Prius I bought across the street because I had to remove the fusable link that had blown before I purchased it. I am assuming that nothing will work until that is replaced. After it is replaced, what should I see when I push the start button for the first time? I am a hobbysit and have only invested $500 in the vehicle, but it has been fascinating to study...but I am very new. Battery tests ok and the post under the hood also tests ok (12 volt ish) So, I have read lots on this chat and hope to hear from you to guide my newbiness.

Can you be more specific about which fuseable link? From what I've read on here the main two mentioned are the one that blows related to inverter cooling pump and one that blows if someone tries to jumpstart with reverse polarity... The first one will require diagnosing/replacing the pump, the second one will require replacing a whole bunch of more expensive stuff.

I’m thinking it is the one that blows as a result of a reverse polarity jump. It is in the right upper corner of the engine apartment right where the other fuses are.

Get a copy of techstream and mini VCI. This will help you to read the codes after you can get the car started. 500 is a good price though. If you can’t figure out everything you should be able to get you money back. Good luck.

Well it seems like you now have a "Hobby" to deal with.
With only a $500 buy in? Plus a nearly 15 year old Prius, I don't know what you can expect once you push the start button.
I'd be surprised if you didn't discover other problems. But if you are approaching this as a step by step project? You have a lot of cushion of investment possible.

It's nearly a no lose proposition, if you discover it's running and OK...great. If you discover other problems, well....it's a hobby, I'm assuming a lot of DIY.

I’m waiting to see if anything comes to life once I replace the fusable link. From there I hope to be able to read codes etc. I’ll take a look at the suggestions. If it is a dumper, what’s the best advice as to how to sell a dumper??
