Maintenance & Water pump

    I've gone over a few threads here about maintenance and got a bunch of stuff done but wanted to see what all the experts here think I am lacking. Also the mechanic recommended strongly to change the water pump. No issues seen, he has a Prius only shop and seems to be knowledgeable.

    Prius 2012 - 112k miles
    Now do oil change every 5k

    Besides all the regular stuff just got this done...
    Changed engine and cabin Filters
    Transaxel fluid change
    Engine coolant changed
    Inverter coolant changed

    Brake flush planned for 115k
    Spark Plugs planned for 120k

    Thoughts on the Water Pump? Any other recommendations?

    I suck at working on this stuff on my own but really good a getting quotes and good prices :)

    Any advice appreciated!

    Averagely, 150K miles Water Pump change on PriusChat members on my last search. I'll do water pump change on next coolant change.which 140K miles.

    Change water pump should be hard on 3rd Gen Prius. the cost on water pump is $350 market part.

    Welcome to your first post on Prius Chat :).

    What I’d do at 112k miles (we owned a Gen3 and got it to 200k miles trouble free):

    • Plan on cleaning the egr circuit at the spark plug change
    • Swap the engine water pump at the next coolant change (150k miles if following the maintenance manual)
    • Trans fluid drain and fill at the earliest convenience
    • Measure brake pad thickness prior to the brake fluid swap so you can pool the job if needed
    I’d also look at an independent mechanic to do the work, such as @Avi's Advanced Automotive or @sfv41901 and @RightOnTime ’s shop which are near you;).

    Hello Raytheeagle, Thanks for your suggestions.
    I did do the transmission fluid drain and fill last week. How often should I get that done now?
    Good thinking on the brakes! And will be checking the mechanics you suggested. Thanks

    Thanks Tekken! So coolants after this should be changed about every 30k?
    I am being quoted $500 - $550 for the water pump change, parts and labor included, does that sound fair?

    30k miles or every 2yrs coolant change sound fair.

    After market water pump should around $350ish.. $100- $150 on labor is about average. You are welcome to change to water pump and it should not hard. Just couple of screws and cable connector. I recommend you change on next coolant change due to you can loose up to 1/2 gallon of coolant while you remove the water pump.

    I did ours every 50-60 k miles after the initial;).

    After that, I found the fluid to be clean and red:).
