So, the buttons on my original key fob started peeling off so I went eboy and bought a new shell and battery for the fob. I swapped the guts out and replaced the battery and everything seemed to be hunky dory. The doors locked and unlocked and the alarm worked. In the morning, when I put the key in the dash, the car wouldn't start. I went and got my wife's fob and everything works fine. Additional Details: I think my car has the SKS system as it has the buttons on the door handles and the 12V battery appears to be from the SKS model. However, for as long as i've owned the car, none of the SKS features have worked. Any ideas why the new shell doesn't fully work? Did I have the battery disconnected for too long?

You forgot to swap over the RFID chip that's located in the other half of the FOB. One half has the circuit board, the other half has the chip. Better dig it out of the trash can fast.

Also, your SKS may be turned off. There's a button labelled "KEY" on the dash, under the steering column. It's used to deactivate the SKS system. Sometimes the button gets operated by accident.

When SKS is functioning, the car is always looking for a fob signal. This will drain the 12v battery in 3-4 weeks, depending on how good the battery is. Turning off the SKS will greatly extend the 12v battery life for those times when you may not use the car for a while, like if you leave it at an airport while on vacation or something similar.

OH MAN! I didn't even notice the chip. Good thing I never throw ANYTHING away. I'll swap it over. I've never noticed the sks button either. Guess I'm not very observant these days. Thanks for the help!

After you swap out the chip you can go ahead and throw the old shell out.
