Yes, this warranty WILL cover both failure and range degradation.

    Press release:

Toyota Extends Battery Warranty for Model Year 2020 Hybrid, Plug-in, and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

PLANO, Texas (October 10, 2019) – With 20 years’ experience and more than three million alternative fuel vehicles sold in the U.S., Toyota is putting more power behind its hybrid battery and component warranty.

Today, Toyota announced it will extend its hybrid battery warranty from 8 years / 100,000 miles to 10 years from date of first use/150,000 miles, whichever comes first. This extension is valid for all new model year 2020 Toyota hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell electric vehicles. All other HV components will retain coverage under the Hybrid System Warranty at 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The new 2020 Toyota hybrid battery warranty is the longest offered warranty in the industry that covers first ownership and all subsequent owners – making it even easier for Toyota to deliver the fuel efficiency, amazing range, dynamic performance, and positive environmental benefits that this innovative technology delivers.

“Toyota introduced the first hybrid vehicle in the world more than 20 years ago, but people still have hesitations about owning a hybrid vehicle,” said Heather Updegraff, General Manager, Toyota Vehicle Marketing & Communications. “Our goal is to minimize that concern and this new warranty extension for the hybrid battery is just another way we are leading the industry and putting our customers first.”

Meanwhile Hyundai-Kia are offering a lifetime warranty on all electric motor batteries sold in their vehicles... Toyota's alternative energy innovations in that regard have been dead in the water for too long and their sales figures reflect that... My friends bought their brand new Hyundai electric car because of this warranty. They had no interest in Toyota's offerings and didn't want to spend more money on a Tesla...

hunday has had long warranties on all their cars as a marketing tool for a long time, and it seems to work for them.

Now if we could just spell their name right... I had to google it just to make sure I spelled it correctly, and you @bisco you obviously aren't concerned about such personal failings as much as I. :)

Is it transferable? I’ve seen Hyundai offer them only for the first owner. Subsequent owners get a shorter warranty (usually the standard 8/100,000)

    lol.

Although @bisco is phonetically spelling out the NA pronunciation.

I believe it’s he-yun day. The first being sounded quickly as one syllable.

When I talked to him on the phone he said he read every word of the warranty and there's no shortage of ways to screw up the warranty, such as if you use your car for commercial purposes like delivery, or Uber...

I didn't ask about the ownership transfer part of the warranty, but if you owned an electric car with lifetime warranty on the pack, I doubt you'd ever want to sell it except for the rarest of circumstances.

Here is what the Kia Warranty Manual says- "Any remaining portion of any warranty, except the 120 month/100,000 mile Power Train (Original Owner) warranty, is fully transferable to subsequent owners."
If it is sold the next owners gets the 60 month/60,000 mile Power Train coverage from whenever the vehicle was first put into service.

At least you got a good reason for why you can't read what to do next in your owner's manual...

A long time behind TOYOTA Australia. While TOYOTA Australia are odd in regards to models and some equipment and specifications - BUT I think it was early this year, they gave a:
    • 5yr /unlimited km on the car;
    • 7yr /unlimited km on the engine and drivetrain; and
    • 10yr /unlimited km on the Hybrid battery.
