does anyone have an issue where the accelerator pedal hits the carpet? In fact, to accelerate to highway speeds the bottom of the accelerator actually depresses into the carpet a bit.

This means I can't actually use a floor liner because a stiff surface prevents the car from accelerating sufficiently to highway speeds.

Is this a known issue? Is there a way to raise the gas pedal?

how long has this been happening?
is it an oem carpet, locked in place?

if so, i have never heard of this problem. i would show it to the dealer, maybe there is a problem with the pedal.

Makes me wonder if the pedal got bent or something. We put a plastic floormat in ours, no trouble with clearance.

I actually have this issue too. I have the husky liners mats and I've always hit the mat when accelerating. I was thinking of just cut the piece underneath the pedal out.

you might be able to consult the dealer service department with no extra cost and a very good attention to it. When I bought my older model car, they were really paying to the safety including the floor mat that was install.

Car is brand new from dealer. I’ll send them a message. I was thinking of cutting a hole just like above mentioned but it does feel like a flaw.

it's different if you have non oem floor mats. if the dealer installed them, you should alert toyota and nhtsa.

that was the cause of death that started the whole unintended acceleration debacle, and cost toyota 18 billion dollars

@jonnnny Well, hold up… have you actually tried a plastic liner or are you just predicting this problem?

@88Keys444 reports trouble with a Husky mat, yet our pedal works great with a weathertech. Coincidentally I have complained about poor fit on a different corner of the weathertech, but the pedal action is fine.

Maybe we've finally found the killer app for PWR mode ... get more of the go pedal output before it hits the carpet.

I found an old hand towel rolled up and ziptied to the back of the gas pedal in a car I rented in the Bahamas. We called it the Island governor.

Took 3 days to notice it because all the roads there are built for slow.

I was thinking the same thing. He could have a potential safety issue there.

This is confirmed, I put in a WeatherTech liner (not stacking of course) and I am not able to hit maximum throttle compared to bare carpet flooring. I reckon the OEM liners that come with the Prius C do not have any material under the accelerator for this reason.

Even with OEM floormats (or no floormats) it seems like when the pedal touches the carpet flooring, I'm a step below maximum throttle. I need to depress the pedal into the flooring itself to achieve maximum throttle. Was wondering if anyone else's Prius C exhibits this behaviour. Sounds like at least one person (88Keys444) does.

Interesting. Our weathertech mat seems to fit appropriately with regards to the pedal landing zone, but it’s got a rather poor fit at the outer forward corner just as it transitions from the doorsill to the back of the front wheel well. Big weird gap, thought it was a mistake at first but apparently this is just how they are. I had never tried weathertech gear before so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

From my notes we installed their stock number 464181.

If it touches with no mats, you need to have it inspected.
They can always shave the bottom off

How do you know that the pedal touching the floor (carpet) is not giving the car maximum power?

It's in no way attached to the engine, so having more travel is not an indicator of having more power left on tap. The pedal is a torque request to the ECM for more torque from the engine. 80% of pedal travel could very well be 100% request, and the remaining 20% a dead band. Easy enough to verify with a scan tool, and is most likely the case.
