Prius Horn

    I nearly got run off the road by a woman making a left turn (2 left turn lanes she was in the left and I the right) and then crossing 3 lanes to the right. My meep meep didn't even slow her down.

    So I ordered a set of Fiamm 74100's. They went in very easy and are nice and loud. Maybe I'll get more of a response next time I have to lay on the horn. Why do they put such small horns in these cars? These smaller cars are not as easy to see as these big truck. So, we need a louder horn just to get their attention.

    Has any tried one of those 150db train horns? Attach a solenoid to the existing wiring and hook the air horn to the battery through the solenoid kind of like a starter is setup? I think that there is enough room for the horn and pump. The horn wouldn't face out the grill, but it would be so loud this probably wouldn't be an issue.

    Depends on the country I suspect - maybe even discrete states have different regulations. But I suspect using a 150dB would have you off the road in a hurry. I read that the acceptable range was about 105-115 - but not sure what distance.

    Just get one of these - they're probably fun to drive:

    Need more POWER!

    Just kidding. We will see how this one works. I don't use the horn very often so it might take a while. Another ijit was playing Formula One in the parking garage today and I had to come to a sudden stop. Darn, I wasn't fast enough to hit the horn.

    At least PRIUS has the horn in a logical place. We bought a RENAULT in 1977, and the horn pad was just a blank pad.

    It was on the end of the stalk.

    I've thought about the same thing. I often do that to vehicles and on a small Prius it just makes sense.

    It's usually a mindless and easy switch to swap out the horn, but TBH I haven't even looked at my Prius' horn yet since the car is still new and I'm more focused on other cosmetic items.

    Please give a summary of what solution, if any, you do.
