2016 prius c, weird noise

It must be weird noise day on Prius Chat? What the heck? You're going to need to be more descriptive. I didn't hear anything weird in the video at all...

rusty rotors

Stomp hard on the breaks a few times while stopping.
Or if you can do it safely, put car in neutral and apply brakes for a stop or two

Happens on most Prii

 

I was sticking to the basics without going into detail....did you try it?

 

The toyota hybrids use regen braking moreso then the actual brake pads.
With humidity and rain, the rotors are prone (for some reason) to actually get surface rust.
If you do not brake hard enough, the rust will not go away and perhaps the pads are faintly rubbing on the rotors and rust.
After a hard braking or the neutral drop lol, this can remove the light rust covering.

Assuming it is coming from the front disc's (since I think the '16c has drums on the rear)
Then quite possible when you are turning the rotors are moving a bit? have you checked to see if lug nuts are tight?

Or perhaps if you live in a very humid area (or not) or whatever, the caliper pins may be rusted or seized,
they may need lubed, so the pads are perhaps not retracting correctly.

But both my Prius have this "rubbing" from rust issue, along with a few others i've read on this forum
A quick "brake check" by stomping hard on brake to slow down can remedy the rubbing noise

But you can also dive into a thorough check on your brake systems to make sure.
Again, double check your lug nuts

Yeah you might need a rubber mallet to strike the inner tire to get it off.
I had to do that I think to all 4 of one of mine.
I then coated the contact area with anti seize, to hopefully not have to deal with that again.
But the rubber mallet worked for me.

Yeah the rough start is a very common problem. I have had it happen on my Gen3
I dont think my C has ever done it...though I cant rememb for sure.

 

Use the loose tire as a battering ram to get the stuck one off. It’s heavy enough that if you hit tire-to-tire, it’ll usually work in 3 tries or less, no risk to paint or lug threads.

If you do wind up using a hammer, put the lug nuts back on (just a few turns) to protect the stud threads from a badly aimed hammer.

 

usually, loosening the lugs, jacking it up and letting it down gets mine off

 

If you take all the wheel nuts off and can't get the rim off the trick is to grab the spare tire or a different wheel and swing it into the one that's stuck as rubber on rubber as hard as you safely can, that's more than enough force to break it loose.

 

I had that happen to me... If you are still getting that noise...try to listen what tire it is and REMOVE THE HUBCAP and drive it again listening... I found out that sometimes it rubs against something on the wheel/plastic... The fix was just snapping in the hubcap "askewed" and the noise went away.
