My car was sideswiped by a careless motorist this morning. They hit the drivers side mirror and it broke apart. The assembly bent back and the plastic cover and trim broke off. I was parked on a city street and came out to see a pedestrian picking up the plastic pieces. Amazingly, the whole thing snapped back together and the mirror still works! The guy that hit my car showed up and offered insurance payment. I showed him how the parts snapped back together and OKed him to go. I’m impressed with this design and wanted to share.

I ordered a replacemwnt mirror, passenger side, but by the time I finished reading your story I realized it wouldn't help - wrong side. Glad to hear you got it back together

I ... woops ... sideswiped an ancient Camry's mirror, couldn't stop safely. By the time I looped around and stopped safely, he had come out from his home, and had already folded it back to the correct place. I went to mine which was folded in - both worked fine - he waved me off, thanking me for returning. But I've got some of his black paint on mine now.

I had the same thing happen to mine when another motorist and myself went for the same gap in between two parked cars. The only damage was a scratched cover from where it hit the road. I got it repainted by the chip and scratch insurance I had on the car, it just cost me the £10 excess.

Some of oem side view mirrors can run you 4 figures nowadays because they contain down lighting for night time step in assistance, collision avoidance warning light/sensors, 360° camera view interface, heated/defrosting glass, turn signal lighting, retracting motors, Etc. JC Whitney must be shaking his head.
