Prius trim level 2. I bought this car a little over a year ago and it had 187k miles then. Now it has about 252k. About 6 months ago I started getting misfire codes so we replaced all sparks and coils. The fuel injectors were done at this time too. After that I started getting a water pump code so i replaced that. All was good for a while. It started overheating a few months ago so I put some head gasket bar's leak sealer in my coolant reservoir and it stopped for a little while. I did this a few times on and off, now it's overheating again and going through coolant like crazy. I'm not sure where it's leaking. I replaced the cap and it stopped overheating for a few hours but started overheating again. How do I bleed the air? The radiator fans look to be working. How can i check the thermostat without removing it?

You have posted many times about this car and we have told you repeatedly that you either need to replace your head gasket (probably too late now) or installed an used engine. You most likely have a failed head gasket.

Why are you interested in cleaning the EGR? It will not help your situation at this point. Save your time and money towards the engine repair.

allison, you do better with one thread and coherent, consistent, logical advice, with questions and answers only being needed once each.
several threads become difficult to follow. for you.

65k miles in a bit over one year...nice. Based on the bolded area above, I'd imagine there's probably plenty of clogged up things in that coolant system by now. This could be something as simple as the radiator being overly clogged with bars leak or the head gasket being totally blown out. When the car overheats, is there steam escaping from under the hood?

There's also coolant in the throttle body, and the exhaust heat recovery. I really think they should outlaw those stop-leak products.

I wish I could afford an engine or head gasket.

I take it from your location, you are in california???
There are MANY MANY Prius owners in california. Maybe if you were nice, and maybe begged, you could find
someone, or two or more that would be willing to HELP you replace the head gasket. If it's not too late and the
head is warped beyond repair, or other damage has happened. That would save you the labor cost, or at least
reduce it a lot. I wouldn't expect them to do all the work involved for free. But maybe you could work it out.

Their are good used engines out there. It will just time some time and research to find one. Maybe with help
    from friends?????

But as Tim Jones said, you're going to need a new heater core and radiator, and thermostat, maybe water pump????
Anytime you put the "crap" in the cooling system, you are asking for trouble. I knew you were just hoping for a
cheap way to fix an expensive problem, but it just doesn't really work. You cannot fix a problem by trying to fix
symptoms. Symptoms point you toward the problem. Resolve the problem, symptoms go away.

I wish you luck and hope you are able to repair your Prius correctly with the least expense.

I keep thinking used car dealers like this crap, about on par with sawdust in the transmission. :cautious:
