I don't want to jinx it, but hopefully (knock wood) I'll be picking up a 2020 Prime XLE this weekend.

What are the little things that you would have wanted to know about the Prime when you first got it? Or what tricks or hacks can you suggest? I've looked through the manual quickly and have been reading here, but would still love to hear what's not obvious about the car.

    Thanks!
    Bob

    Congratulations!

Before you take a delivery, ask your dealer to change the reverse beep from continuous to a single beep. That seems to be one of the biggest complaint I have seen. Dealer can change this setting using TechStream. There are several OBDII app that allows consumer to change it, but you have to invest your time and money. That being said, I actually like the continuous beep. After changing to a single beep DIY, I changed back to continuous beep.

Also ask your dealer to charge up the car so you can try EV mode if you haven't already.

Just me, but I would have the whole thing up on jack stands, wheels off, painting everything metal I could reach, the suspension, bollts, with boiled linseed oil. Then oil-soak the small screws and fasteners.

Maybe also: get the dealership prep team to leave the wheel covers in the hatch, and get centre caps for the hubs. Linseed oil on the hubs too, lol.

    Look into Oil Catch Can??

Thanks for the hint. I saw that this was a dealer modification when I looked at the manual, but I decided that I don't really mind the beep in my 2004 Prius. So I concluded that all of the dealer-modified items were OK with me.

Thanks for the idea. I don't know if it'll make it upon stands on Day 1, but I read the rust-proofing thread here and thought to myself that given Minnesota conditions I'd either go with boiled linseed or woolwax.

ALL WINDOWS DOWN is a handy feature to request.

The dealer can add that to your FOB. It's a quick update you'll enjoy in the summer. Just hold the button and watch all the windows lower to let in fresh air.

I think the only time I ever open my windows is when there is a lot of condensation on them in the morning and I need to see out the passenger side. A/C all the time here!

It seems that this reverse beeping is unique to the Prius. I opted for the change on my new 2020 Prime Limited because I did not want to loose the warning beeps in the midst of the reverse's beeping. This was not an issue with my 2004 Prius or 2013 Basic PiP.

Speaking of Prius Prime in Minneapolis, here's a video of exactly that...

I filmed that rather ugly commute on Tuesday, making a trek from work to Grandpa's house during the worst time of day.

You covered most of my morning commute in your video. (Despite my name) I live in St. Paul and work in Minneapolis. I-94 was ugly last night.

Have the dealer change whatever options they can. There are quite a few "dealer changeable options"

That was the main reason I changed the setting to one reverse beep. I couldn't immediately distinguish between the proximity alerts ("you are about to hit something") and the backup beeping.

I asked the dealer to set the fob to allow all windows down. It ended up that they turned off the reverse beep for me as well as killing the theme music on the startup.

Turned the reverse beep off completely or just one single beep?

My recollection is that it's off completely, but looking at the manual I downloaded onto my computer, it looks like the only other option is a single beep. I'll try to pay attention when I go home tonight.

Thanks. I could be wrong, but you'd be the first that has been able to have silence when putting in reverse. :)

My guess is that there's a beep. I don't see the dealership in Missouri diving deep into the weeds to completely silence things. :)
