(2008 Prius) I'm having fuel tank issues commonly identified in other posts (1 flashing block on gauge; unable to add more than 8 gallons) and have replaced the tank. In doing, I pulled 3 of the 6 harness wires from the car harness side of the F14 connector (under the rear seat) which connects at the top of the tank. (It's an 8-pin connector but only has 6 wires). I was able to reconnect the wires to the pins but I am not certain I have the pins back in the correct slots. Can someone confirm which color wire goes to which numbered slot? I have the wiring diagram from the electrical manual which shows the F14 connector (page 458) but it isn't clear to me what goes where. Any help, advice, or a photo of the connector clearly showing the wires would help and be greatly appreciated.

From the page number, it sounds like you’re looking at the Overall Electrical Wiring Diagram section, which shows the circuits in summary form, with wire colors indicated only by abbreviations. The Engine Control and Combination Meter pages of the System Circuit section also show the terminal assignments, with the wires drawn in color. Connector F14 appears twice, once for the Fuel Pump and once for the Fuel Sender.

    Here are the wire colors:

    3 B (Black)
    4 L (Blue)
    5 B (Black)
    6 BR (Brown)
    7 W-B (White, Black Stripe)
    8 R (Red)

Since F14 is a female connector, the terminals are numbered in order from upper left to lower right, looking into the disconnected mating face of the connector on the car wire harness:

    1 2 3 4
    5 6 7 8

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the wiring harness when I had my tank out. Your best bet would be to probably go to the Toyota dealer get a technician to give you a print out of the wiring diagram

Thanks to all for the quick responses. The detailed info from Electroinginieur was a very useful but unfortunately, a little different than what I'm seeing on my car. The F14 connector on my car is labeled in mirror image of what you provided. (Like this)

    4 3 2 1
    8 7 6 5

Besides that, I did have the wires reconnected according to the number/color combination above. I know for certain that 5 of the 8 pins are correct (because 3 were still in place and 2 were plugs). So...any other thoughts? I will recheck that I have good wire connections on all pins. One other thing which may/may not be a factor is that I have installed a 2009 tank (mine is a 2008). From what I have read, that should not be an issue though it is a used tank and could itself be causing problems. After installation of the tank, I did try turning things on and the engine started then stopped after approx 5 seconds (multiple times). Further, I drove the car about 100 yards and the motor did not come on then. Lastly, after setting for almost 2 weeks, today the 12V battery is dead. I'm recharging now. Thanks in advance for responses. I appreciate your thoughts on what to check next.

I should have included this before. The orange wire is attached to brown. You can tell which 3 I pulled from the pins and had to fix.

That’s correct. I described the connector as Toyota shows it in their manuals: looking into the terminals, with the connector disconnected and the wires going away from you. Your photo shows the connector from the wiring side, which is also where Sumitomo molded the numbers into the housing.
The wires in your photo map correctly to the terminals, assuming orange is a replacement for brown.
Are you sure the engine started? Sometimes people hear MG1 cranking the engine, which doesn’t sound quite like a conventional starter, and assume that the engine has started, when it actually isn’t running under its own power. Keep in mind that too many starting attempts will discharge the HV battery, which must then be recharged using an external charger.
If you already have the tank disconnected, you could start with the DC resistance and motor checks described in the Repair Manual (more info) under Engine/Hybrid System: 1NZ-FXE Fuel: Fuel Tank: Inspection. Be sure to follow the precautions stated in the manual. Once you know the pump works, then connect it and use the Techstream active test feature (see 1NZ-FXE Fuel: Fuel System: On-Vehicle Inspection, step 2) to run the pump; if that fails, the trouble is probably in the wire harness or connector.

Thank you again for the quick and thorough reply. I appreciate the detailed troubleshooting information. I'm fairly certain the sound I heard was the engine actually running but your question gives me reason to think I could be wrong. I'm going to recheck the integrity of the wires going into the connector one more time. Diagnosing/fixing electrical issues is not one of my favorites. Assuming the wires and connections are all good, I will most likely let an expert fix this one. I'll follow up with additional info regarding the problem and solution. Thanks again.
