    Vindication.

This happened to me a week after purchase, and my shiny new car had to spend a week at the dealer. Leftmost display just went dead with no warning.

"Affected: Approximately 3,800 model-year 2019 Toyota Prius hybrid hatchbacks

The Problem: An electrical short circuit in the combination meter could occur, causing the speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge to become inoperative. ...

The Fix: Dealers will check a component within the combination meter and replace the combination meter circuit board with a new one, as necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Toyota will begin notifying owners in early February 2020. "

The Owners section usually won’t have any information until notifications begin, and then only if you enter the VIN of an affected vehicle. The Voluntary Recalls page on Toyota’s U.S. press website, however, has a press release from Wednesday that mentions the recall.

There is no information on NHTSA’s website yet, but the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan has posted the recall notification for similar cars sold there, including the report (PDF) and illustration (PDF), both in Japanese. The defective part is the meter circuit plate, which apparently can have internal cracks, causing the short circuit @Itmaybejj kindly described above.

I can't post links yet because my account is new, but the above was copied from a Dec 11 article on the site named "cars" followed by "com"

Google "2019 Toyota Prius: Recall Alert" to find it.

One more nonspammy post and I can add it myself
