Yeah the "before" picture of the pipe is very telling. Good that there's at least one part of the EGR system relatively easy to remove and check.

Did you manage the EGR valve cleaning without removal of the black plastic cap, just curious? I was starting to round the screw holes on ours, decided to clean without disassembly. Went ok.

 

I took it off. With my luck, I didn't want to risk possibly damaging the female sensor connector on it
