New here, been driving my 2018 Prius 3 for 3-4 weeks now. All phone and audio functions were working fine until I updated my iphone X to ios 13.3 the other day. Now, when the car is turned on (even in park), I'm not able to do voice-to-text in imessage. When the car is off this function works fine. (Note, I'm not trying to dictate a text through the voice button on the steering wheel - when I tried that it took me through all the voice recognition training prompts and then said my phone is not compatible with that entune function.)

So let's say I get a text message while the car is on. I pick up the phone and to respond I click the little microphone icon on the imessage keyboard to dictate a text. Ordinarily there would be audio waves to indicate it's recording me, but instead there's a flat line and no text comes up in the field where it's supposed to.

I was on the phone with apple yesterday for an hour and they weren't able to figure it out - had me restart, delete and re-pair the phone on bluetooth, etc. They think the issue is with the car, and told me to find out if there's an entune update I need. I haven't called Toyota yet - not even sure who to call about this!

Has anyone dealt with anything like this before? It's as if it's a new toyota "safety feature" to prevent distracted driving that I didn't opt-in to. Not saying I'm going to text and drive now but how does it know I'm not a passenger? am i supposed to turn off the whole ignition just to send a text while in the car? it's ridiculous.

Who/where at Toyota should I call about this?

Alas, probably not worth your trouble.
    Toyota will blame Apple.
    And Apple will blame Toyota.
That is even if you can contact anyone at either company that even knows what you are talking about.
Modern technology is wonderful.......as long as it works.

Any chance of "undoing" the Apple upgrade ??

If you really want to pursue this with Toyota, start with the service MANAGER at your dealer.
And please keep us posted with any results.....positive or negative.

Mine stopped working with 15 iOS update. Turning off Bluetooth is my workaround

On my 2017 Prius I was enjoying talk to text through the phone just fine until approximately JAN of 2023. Tried the car audio settings, tried re-pairing it, can't figure it out and it's a real shame. I only used it sparingly, but it was very valuable. Thanks for discussing.
